Country Throwback: Luke Combs, Leon Bridges Sing ‘Beautiful Crazy’ at CMT Crossroads 2018

by Clayton Edwards

CMT Crossroads is a show that brings country stars together with artists from other genres for a night of performances. It’s a great way to introduce the audience to new music while showcasing the artists’ versatility at the same time. In 2018, Luke Combs was joined by soul singer-songwriter Leon Bridges.

The pair performed songs from both Combs’ and Bridges’ catalog. One of those songs was Combs’ ode to unpredictable women, “Beautiful Crazy.”

Bridges’ soulful voice is perfect for this song. He truly shines alongside Luke Combs. The pair work off of one another expertly. The audience absolutely agrees. When the camera pans to shots of the crowd, they are all having a great time. It’s a small sea of swaying cowboy hats and ladies belting the lyrics along with Bridges and Combs.

Luke Combs’ Musical Taste

Seeing Luke Combs sharing the stage with a soul singer wouldn’t be surprising even if it weren’t on CMT Crossroads. Lately, Combs has shown fans that his taste in music is eclectic. From pop hitmakers to bluegrass legends, he doesn’t discriminate.

Earlier this month, Luke Combs called Ed Sheeran the GOAT after the release of Sheeran’s latest track, “Afterglow,” which surprised some fans. It seems that Combs is just a fan of music that speaks to his soul regardless of genre. After all, good music is good music. As long as it sounds good and has some kind of emotional effect, genre doesn’t really matter.

Bluegrass legend Tony Rice died on Christmas. Yesterday, Combs tweeted a video of Rice playing “Church Street Blues,” and urged his fans to watch it. While it is sad that the world of bluegrass lost another titan, it is nice to see someone with such a large platform sharing Rice’s work.

Luke Combs keeps getting more interesting as time goes on. From his songwriting to the music he consumes, no one could accuse Combs of being boring.
