In another edition of our country throwback series, we are going back to when Miranda Lambert sang “White Liar” at the 2010 County Music Television Awards.

The country music singing sensation is at the top of the music industry and has been for quite some time now. Now 37-years-old, the singer and songwriter has risen through country music ranks to become one of the industry’s biggest superstars.

“White Liar” is a song co-written by Lambert and Natalie Hemby, and recorded by Lambert. It saw its release in August of 2009 as the second single from Lambert’s album Revolution.

The song became Lambert’s second Top 10 hit in December of 2009. It also reached a peak of number 2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart for the week of February 6, 2010.

In the song, the female narrator describes confronting her man for cheating. She refers to him as being a “white liar” for deceiving her, in reference to the term white lie. Have a listen to when Lambert performed the hit a decade ago at the CMT Awards.

“White Liar” would also go on to receive three ACM Awards nominations: Single of the Year, Song of the Year, and Video of the Year, the last of which she was the winner.

Story Behind the Miranda Lambert Song

Back in 2015, Miranda Lambert told The Boot just how exactly her hit song came to be.

“I wrote that song with my friend Natalie Hemby. We wrote four songs on the album together,” Lambert explains. “Natalie had the title, ‘White Liar,’ and we thought it was great. I started playing a little bit of a tune to it on the guitar, and we just started writing. It happened really fast. We wrote it in about 20 minutes. Cheating in a small town is what this song is all about.”

The country music star also says that she gained a little inspiration from the husband and wife duo of Buddy and Julie Miller.

“I was listening to a lot of Buddy and Julie Miller,” Lambert said. “They have great music — somewhat bluegrass, but it’s pretty rockin’, too. I think I was influenced by them that day.”
