Relive 1992’s country scene with Randy Travis’ iconic tone & fringe as he performs “Diggin’ Up Bones” at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry.

Not every country star can pull off a classic fringe jacket, but Randy Travis did with the best of ’em. The country star is a living legend, though his performing days are tragically behind him after suffering a debilitating stroke in 2013 after decades of crooning the country music world.

The icon’s official biography states that his doctors told family they’d lost all hope for the legendary singer. Travis, however, “has fought back harder than ever and is now able to walk. His speech and singing continue to improve with hopes of being back in front of his loyal fans one day soon,” the site details a few years back.

Thankfully, Travis continues to make strides in recent years and even closer to his old self at 61-years-old.

Currently, he lives on his ranch in Texas with his wife Mary Davis-Travis. Here, he continues his rehabilitation alongside making appearances around the U.S. Travis even released a memoir detailing the ups and downs of his life in May of 2019, titled “Forever and Ever, Amen: A Memoir of Music, Faith and Braving the Storms of Life” with Ken Abraham.

For Randy Travis and us fans alike, let’s throwback to a simpler time when the icon was at his peak: 1992.

Randy Travis: ‘Diggin’ Up Bones’ (1992)

If you’ve ever witnessed Travis perform live, you know how incredible a showman he is and was. Few worked a crowd like Travis, and he’s in full form for today’s Country Throwback at the Grand Ole Opry in music city: Nashville, Tennessee.

For this Opry appearance, Travis hit many of his staples, including the one we’re reliving today: “Diggin’ Up Bones”. The hit was written by Paul Overstreet, Nat Stuckey, and Al Gore (not that Al Gore.) Randy Travis recorded & released the hit in August of 1986 as the third single from Storms of Life. “Hit” is an understatement for “Bones,” too, as the song made its way to the No. 1 spot across country charts in both the United States and Canada.

As such, “Diggin’ Up Bones” remains one of Travis’ defining singles to this day. Relive the icon’s heyday with us below as he works the Opry’s crowd like no one else could:
