Country Throwback: Reba McEntire, Hank Williams Jr. Team Up for ‘Hey Good Lookin’ in 1988

At the 23rd annual Academy of Country Music Awards in 1988, country stars Reba McEntire and Hank Williams Jr. got together to sing a duet.

The song was “Hey Good Lookin,” and it was written by Hank Williams Sr. in 1951. It showcased the late country legend’s little-seen jovial side.

“Hey Good Lookin” has since become a mainstay of country music collections and a favorite cover song of more current artists.

This year, Williams Jr. got to follow in his father’s footsteps when he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. In 1961, Williams Sr. became one of three inaugural inductees, according to Billboard.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome Dean, Marty and Hank Jr. into the unbroken circle,” Country Music Association chief executive officer Sarah Trahern said in a statement. “I’m sad we can’t toast this year’s class in person at the Country Music Hall of Fame, but I hope this news can bring some joy and cause for celebration… In particular, our hearts are with Hank and his family following the recent loss of his daughter, Katherine.”

Williams’ daughter Katherine died in a car accident this June. She was 27 years old.

According to Tennessee Highway Patrol, Katherine was driving a Chevy Tahoe with her husband Tyler in the passenger seat. The Tahoe, which was towing a boat, went over the dividing median of the highway and rolled over through the lanes of traffic going the opposite direction. It came to a rest on the shoulder of the opposite side of the highway.

Katherine was the daughter of Williams Jr., 71, and his wife Mary Jane Thomas, according to People. The country star has three other children from earlier marriages.
