In this country throwback, we are going back to the 2019 Academy of Country Music Awards when George Strait brought out fellow star Miranda Lambert to deliver an incredible performance of his classic song “Run.”

The high-profile country duo offered up a flashback to simpler times with their performance at the 54th ACM Awards. The King of Country was rocking his iconic cowboy hat and black guitar. Meanwhile, Lambert was in a shimmering red cowgirl outfit. They almost immediately won over the audience with their tag-team performance of the George Strait classic.

The song is all about two lovers who are separated by space and circumstance but longing to reconnect. With Strait and Lambert standing side by side and a neon-lit cityscape behind them, the Texan duo performed a smile-inducing rendition of the hit song.

Both singers were sporting smiles the whole time, too. Further, it wasn’t the first time George Strait and Lambert have teamed up for the tune. The star singers have paired on the track a few times over the years, including in 2014 during Strait’s “final tour date” concert at AT&T stadium. “Run” is from Strait’s The Road Less Traveled album.

“Baby run, cut a path across the blue skies/ Straight in a straight line/ You can’t get here fast enough,” they sing.

Watch the two country stars join forces in the video below:

The classic George Strait song was written by Anthony Smith and Tony Lane. It was released by Strait in September 2001. The song peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts in December 2001. It also hit number 34 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it a minor crossover hit.

Lambert ends the song by saying, “That’s the King, y’all!”

George Strait, Lambert, and Others Perform at 2019 ACM Awards

George Strait did not receive a nomination for an award at the 2019 ACM Awards ceremony. He did, however, present the prestigious Dick Clark Artist of the Decade award to Jason Aldean earlier in the evening. Miranda Lambert, on the other hand, got nominations for two awards at the ceremony — music event of the year and female artist of the year.

Both artists also performed other songs at the show, with Lambert leading a hits medley and Strait closing out the three-hour program with the song “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar.”

The biggest award winners of the night went to Keith Urban for Entertainer of the Year, Thomas Rhett for Male Artist of the Year, Kacey Musgraves for Female Artist of the Year, and Album of the Year. The popular country duo Dan + Shay brought home trophies for Single of the Year (“Tequila”), Song of the Year (“Tequila”), and Duo of the Year.
