Country Throwback: Watch LeAnn Rimes Crush ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree’ in 2004

Artists of all genres have put their unique spin on Brenda Lee’s holiday hit, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” including female county singer LeAnn Rimes. Rimes recorded the song for her 2004 Christmas record, What a Wonderful World.

Brenda Lee’s rendition of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” is one of the best-selling Christmas songs of all time. In 2008 the song celebrated its 50th anniversary, and at the time, it was the fourth most-downloaded Christmas song in history.

LeAnn Rimes Puts Carefree Spin on Lee’s Classic Christmas Song

Like Lee, LeAnn Rimes’ rendition of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” was a hit as it reached the No. 3 spot on the “Billboard Adult Contemporary” chart. It was also a crossover hit on the country chart when the song got the 48th spot.

LeAnn Rimes performed the cover in front of a jam-packed crowd who gathered to watch her perform on the Airtran Airways Stage. As she began singing a rendition of the song, she incorporated an unusual element: she used only her voice and a single acoustic guitar during the performance.

After watching, you can understand why she chose not to include a full band. Rimes effortlessly carried the performance all on her own, thanks in large part to her standout vocals.

Her stage presence also enhanced the performance. Rimes moved, grooved, and danced around the stage as she sang, adding an exciting element to the whole thing.

When 13-year-old Brenda Lee recorded “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” little did she know it would become one of the all-time greatest Christmas songs. Following its initial release in 1958, ironically, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” wasn’t the huge success it would become at first. Later in 1959, Lee’s record label would rerelease the song but again ended up a flop.

In 1960, the song eventually subscribed to the “the third time’s a charm” phrase since it became a knockout hit when the label released it for the third time. Lee’s popularity had increased significantly at that point, which is why the song performed much better that time around. Watch LeAnn Rimes deliver a stunning performance of Lee’s classic song below.
