AMA Awards 2020: Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber Win Favorite Country Song

Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber won the AMA for Favorite Country Song for “10,000 Hours.”

Dan + Shay and Their Big Win

On Sunday, Nov. 22, the country duo and pop sensation took home the big win at the American Music Awards. Only Smyers and Mooney were available to accept the award. Bieber previously performed a medley of hits to open the show. Dan + Shay are set to perform later in the show and are the only country group performing at this year’s AMAs.

The Other Nominees

Maren Morris was nominated for her fan-favorite “The Bones.” Morris won big at the 2020 CMA Awards with the song. She won both Single of the Year and Song of the Year for the track and won the coveted Female Vocalist of the Year honor.

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani were up for “Nobody But You.” Additionally, the lovebirds won the 2020 CMT Award for Collaborative Video of the Year for the track.

The Song’s Meaning

The song holds a special place in their hearts. The three men performed the song at Justin Bieber’s wedding to Hailey Baldwin-Bieber. “We sang ‘Speechless’ and then Justin jumped on stage,” Smyers previously told Access Hollywood.

“We were about to release our new single ‘10,000 Hours.’ We had not ever performed it live. And he was like ‘Yo, you guys gotta sing ‘10,000 Hours’ and he’s on the song with us and it was like, ‘Uh, I don’t wanna embarrass ourselves but we don’t quite know the words,” he added. “We’ve never sang it in front of anybody.’ We hacked our way through it. It was cool.”

The trio recently performed the song at the 2020 CMA Awards at the Hollywood Bowl. This marked the first time that the trio performed the song live in public together. Due to the pandemic, there was no live audience and the men had to stay socially distant.
