Dan + Shay have released the music video for their new holiday single, “Christmas Isn’t Christmas.” And it’s full of emotional lyrics and poignant melodies.
In the song, Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney sing about being separated from loved ones on Christmas and the melancholy it provokes.
Special Christmas Music
“Christmas Isn’t Christmas’ is very special to us,” Mooney said in a press release. “We wrote this song with our families in mind. We are definitely reminded around the holiday season how important it is to have those people that you love around you. Christmas really isn’t Christmas if you don’t have the people that you love around you.”
Good music often speaks to universal themes. The song will resonate with many people this year as some families distance from each other due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“Christmas Isn’t Christmas” follows the release of another Dan + Shay holiday single, “Take Me Home for Christmas.” Smyers produced both, according to Taste of Country.
A Busy Pair
Meanwhile, Dan + Shay are too busy this holiday season to be blue. The duo will be performing in two holiday specials this year. They’re in “CMA Country Christmas,” which airs on ABC on Nov. 30 at 8 p.m. ET. They’re also in “Christmas in Rockefeller Center,” which airs on NBC on Dec. 2 at 8 p.m. ET.
It caps a frenetic year for Dan + Shay, who won Vocal Duo of the Year at this year’s CMA Awards for the second year in a row. And they won Collaboration of the Year at the recent AMA Awards. They also performed in both awards shows.
As for the video, it features the two musicians and a piano on snow-covered ground, surrounded by a circle of evergreens. As the melody reaches its peak, the trees go bright with Christmas lights. They then dim back down after the song crescendos.
