Dan + Shay to Join ‘The Voice’ as Battle Advisors for Blake Shelton

Country music singer-songwriter Blake Shelton, who is a coach on NBC’s “The Voice,” will be getting some backup help this coming season.

Dan + Shay have signed on to be battle advisors for Shelton. The duo will help young artists learn about the fine art of harmonizing.

“The way (Dan + Shay) come together and vocalize together and make music, I thought that would be a great mentor to have, these two,” Shelton said.

He said that there are situations he’s been in during battle rehearsals. “One of the artists will ask me a question about harmony, and I don’t know crap about harmony,” Shelton said.

“I’ll be like, ‘Oh, you know, I’m gonna check on that for you,’ and then I never do because I don’t know anything about harmony,” Shelton said.

Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney are close to Blake Shelton. Getting in with “The Voice” made Smyers recall the first time he and Mooney crossed paths with Shelton on a tour.

“He took us out on literally our first tour, the Ten Times Crazier Tour, and I don’t even think we had a hit on the radio at that point,” Smyers said. “He took a chance on us and we became super close out there. Blake, as successful as he is, is the most humble, down-to-Earth dude out there and just an incredible person, and incredible role model.”

Now they will work together to beat out other “Voice” coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Nick Jonas.

Blake Shelton Admits He Misses Performing Live

Like so many other musicians and performers, Blake Shelton put plans for touring on hold these past months. The COVID-19 pandemic is forcing concerts to be postponed or canceled in cities in the United States.

On Friday afternoon, Shelton posted on Twitter where he reminisced on how much he misses touring.

Shelton shared his thoughts with a photo on Twitter from a live show in the past.

Shelton released a new single called “Minimum Wage” a few weeks ago. It is Shelton’s first solo single release since 2019’s “God’s Country.” It is doing well on the Billboard Hot Country chart despite some controversy surrounding the song’s lyrics.

Shelton told Entertainment Tonight he didn’t have a desire to put out a new album after releasing “God’s Country.”

“I don’t want to put out an album,” Shelton said. “I really don’t. I’m sure that at some point my record company people are going to pressure me into it, but as of now, I’m not putting out an album this year. I know that.”

Shelton kept to his word and didn’t release an album in 2020. That will change in 2021 as he will give fans a new album. He confirmed this while being a guest on “The Bobby Bones Show.”

Obviously, Blake Shelton is spending time prepping for his wedding to fellow musician Gwen Stefani. That’s on his mind as quarantine forces both Shelton and Stefani to spend more time at home than on the road.
