When Darius Rucker purchased the meals for everyone inside a South Carolina IHOP recently, he wasn’t trying to create headlines or draw attention to himself. According to an interview with Taste of Country Nights, the singer was just trying to lend a helping hand to his fellow man.
“I was just looking around … and there was just a bunch of families, a bunch of kids,” Rucker said on the show. “I really just thought about the economy and what it is and it’s been a tough year, and I was walking out and saw my friends that I see all the time when I’m in there and I said, ‘Hey man, how long will it take you to calculate everybody’s check.’ He said, ‘About a minute.'”
The country singer went on to add: “I did it — I tipped the waitstaff and I left. I just didn’t think it was going to be newsworthy.”
According to the article, Darius Rucker went to IHOP that day to eat after playing golf with his son. In a friendly competition between father and son, the father lost. This meant that Rucker will have to keep a promise he made and purchase his son a car. The type of vehicle? A car that meats the approval of the boy’s mother, the singer said.
Darius Rucker Buys Breakfast for Diners, Tips Staff
In addition to purchasing the meals for everyone in that IHOP restaurant on that Sunday morning, Darius Rucker also left a big tip for the restaurant’s staff. The singer often dines in that restaurant, according to a report by WMBF NBC News.
Stephen Vitale said the singer asked him if he could purchase the meals of everyone in the restaurant. This came as a surprise. Vitale is the manager of the South Carolina IHOP.
“It was a full restaurant,” Vitale said. “There were a lot of people. I added it up, and he paid. It caused a lot of excitement.”
Vitale reportedly described the tip Darius Rucker left as “very generous.”
He would not tell media how much the singer spent in the restaurant.
“We know him because he does come in quite often, and we consider him a regular,” Vitale said. “It was a good morning at IHOP.“
A few fans did take the opportunity to thank Darius Rucker for buying their meals.
Rucker Surprises Lady A with Grand Ole Opry Invitation
Darius Rucker seems to be in the business of surprising people these days. In addition to his generous act at IHOP, he also recently surprised Lady A with an invitation to join the Grand Ole Opry.
The singer surprised the group on stage while Lady A on stage. The group was filming their segment for the NBC special, “Grand Ole Opry: 95 Years of Country Music.”
“What can you say about three friends of yours who together have become one of the biggest groups in country music history,” Rucker said. “Well how about this. This trio are multi-platinum superstars, seven-time Grammy Award winners, seven-time CMA Award winners, too. … So Lady A, would you guys like to be the newest members of the Grand Ole Opry?”
