Darius Rucker loved being a part of A&E’s WWE Most Wanted Treasures reality show. But will Sunday’s episode reveal whether the country star owns a key Ric Flair collectible?
Rucker teased his part of the show by tweeting a clip. He and Flair have been friends for more than 20 years. And Darius Rucker does own some very expensive Ric Flair collectibles. The Most Wanted Treasures show is a novel one. Pro wrestling celebrities travel the country in search of collectibles related to the WWE. The Sunday finale features Flair and his daughter, Charlotte, looking for wrestling robes.
Darius Rucker tweeted: “If you know me, you know I’m a big fan of Ric Flair and Charlotte Flair. I got a chance to sit down with the legend himself for the 2-HOUR season finale of @TreasuresWWE! Tune-in this Sunday at 8/7c on @AETV to see which of his treasures I have!”
Darius Rucker Paid Huge Bucks for a Robe. Does He Own More Than One?
Darius Rucker didn’t reveal what collectibles he has in his home. Why spoil the surprise? He sounds like he has several.
Fans of Ric Flair know all about his robes. They were always outlandish with lots of sparkles. He wore them into the ring. They were all part of his larger-than-life style, hence the name, flair.
Yahoo reported that Rucker paid $35,000 for a Ric Flair robe. It was white with “Nature Boy” written on the back.
In the Twitter clip, Darius Rucker admits he spent a ton of money back in 1999 at a fundraiser for the Jimmy V Foundation. However, he didn’t say which robe he bought. This was back when Rucker was the lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish. He said he told his fellow bandmates “I don’t care what that cost me, I’m leaving with that.”
Flair Is Looking for His Beloved Butterfly Robe
Also in the clip with Rucker, Flair mentions his black butterfly robe. His robes are big collectibles, but he hasn’t seen the black one with the butterflies and white feather accents in decades. He wore the robe during his WWE debut in 1992 at Royal Rumble. Yahoo reported that the last time anyone saw that specific robe on TV was in 1995.
“It was stolen out of a hotel,” Flair told People magazine. “I gave it to security at the hotel and they put it behind the desk in the lock room or whatever it was. They came in the morning to pick it up and leave for the airport and to have it not be there – back then, that was just the infancy of cell phones, and I’m taking off for another city. I never saw it again.”
Maybe Darius Rucker owns the robe. Or maybe Flair and his daughter do track it down somewhere else.
But from the clip that he shared, we know Rucker is a huge fan of Flair’s.
“I started watching wrestling when I was a very, very young kid,” Rucker said. “My grandmother loved (wrestling). She got me into it as a kid. The guy for me, the guy for me who really captured it is Ric Flair.”
