In many regards, the sport of NASCAR is not as popular as it once was. However, beloved music star Darius Rucker has a solution for that problem. And he decided to share that solution during a recent appearance on a new podcast. That podcast is “Set It Straight: Myths and Legends.”

This new music podcast is the work of the country music group Midland. And, during his recent appearance on this new venture, the 55-year-old Darius Rucker commented on the state of the famous stock car racing organization and its fanbase. According to a tweet shared by the group, the episode that features Rucker is the third episode of the new series.

Rucker argues that if the racing organization wants to survive, it needs to make a serious effort to reach out to another demographic. This is a demographic that he seems to believe has been underserved during the history of the sport.

“It’s like I say to my NASCAR friends – you got all the white people you going to get. If you going to grow your sport, you need to get some brothers up in there,” Darius Rucker said.

Rucker’s advice for NASCAR hit home with the members of Midland. Judging by the video, they really enjoyed what the former Hootie & the Blowfish frontman turned country music star had to say.

During his appearance, Garth Brooks talked about the early days of his career. “We got a chance to be with the people. And they were gonna tell me where I was at in my career and it began. And uh, and you talk about – you talking about fun, you talking about memorable, you talking about those last things that you see when your last breaths are taken on this earth, that day will be one of them for me,” Garth Brooks said.

The “Unanswered Prayers” singer also praised Midland for the new podcast. “I’m here for anybody that’s got the courage to do what you guys are doing. I’ll suit up right next to you, paint my face, pick up a sword,” Brooks also said.
