Dennis Quaid Makes Grand Ole Opry Debut, Dedicates Song to Late Charley Pride

Famous actor Dennis Quaid made his Grand Ole Opry Debut today. He dedicated his song to Charley Pride, who passed away yesterday morning.

Quaid is well-known for his roles in movies like “The Parent Trap,” “The Day After Tomorrow,” “A Dog’s Purpose,” and “The Rookie.” He began receiving recognition in the ’80s for his acting abilities. Since then, Quaid has starred in a variety of films from dramatic to comedic.

However, most recently the actor has been exploring a career in music. He started a band called DQ & The Sharks. The group describes themselves as rock ‘n’ roll country soul.

According to the band’s website, music has been a big part in all of their lives.

“As far back as I can remember, music has always been a big part of my life … My third cousin was Gene Autry, the original Western movie singing cowboy. My grandmother played piano and sang songs from the ’20s, songs from her youth … dad played piano and crooned like Bing Crosby and looked a little like Dean Martin,” Quaid said.

The other members include Jamie James, Tom Mancillas, Ken Stange, and Tom Walsh.

James led the Kingbees. The other three have worked with artists like Harry Dean Stanton, Roger Miller, Tina Turner, Joe Cocker, Supertramp, and America.

The group has been together for almost 20 years. However, they released their first studio album in 2018. The album is called “Out Of The Box.”

What Song Dennis Quaid and His Band Play?

The Grand Ole Opry is one of the most famous stages in country music. For 95 years, the stage has seen artist after artist. Most recently the stage hosted the 55th ACM Awards.

The group performed Quaid’s song “On My Way To Heaven” live today at the stage. The song also appears in the movie “I Can Only Imagine.”

Now, he dedicates it to his dear friend Charley Pride who lost his battle to COVID-19.

The song features lyrics including: “Now I’m on my way to Heaven / I’m on my way to Heaven / On my way to Heaven / So I can’t be stayin’ long.”

Dennis Quaid and Charley Pride were connected through “The Charley Pride Story.”

“Charley Pride was a global icon in music, baseball and business. He broke barriers, unprecedented at the time, and made us all realize that we have more in common than our differences … As one of the producers of the ‘Charley Pride Story,’ I’ll make sure his story is not unsung to the younger generation. While Charley has left this Earth, he is now singing in the Heavenly choir,” Quaid said according to The Country Note.

At the time of his death, Pride was in the process of working on the biopic with Dennis Quaid as the co-producer.
