Dolly Parton, she’s like so many of us. She prefers to buy her fabulous clothes off the rack.
The costs of some of the designer clothes are just too offensive when compared to the stuff that you really need. Although Dolly Parton always dazzles — she even had the perfect outfit to get the Covid-19 vaccine — her clothes are within reason.
Parton talked about her shopping habits six months ago when she appeared on Skavlan, a popular TV show in Sweden and Norway. (Like all of us, the Scandinavians appreciate Dolly Parton.)
“I really like to earn money, but I love to spend it, too,” Dolly Parton said. “But I spend it on things that I feel like that’s needed. I’m not the kind of person that will go out and spend like three or four thousand dollars on a coat or one outfit.
“I always think of my daddy or my mama (when it comes to big spending). I can think well on this one purse, my daddy could have lived a whole year on that. They could have fed a family of twelve on what I would pay for a coat.”
Dolly Parton Wrote Coat of Many Colors. So, Can You Imagine Her Buying an Expensive One?
And that brings us to one of the best Dolly songs ever, Coat of Many Colors. Her mother made her a coat out of colorful rags. There could be some buyer’s guilt if Parton used her hard-earned money to buy a super-expensive designer coat.
Dolly Parton said her every day clothes are budget-friendly. She may prefer pret a porter for her designer duds, but she buys ready to wear. If need be, she’ll “Dolly-ize” an outfit — bling it up.
“As far as my everyday clothes, I’m ok with buying off the rack,” Dolly Parton said. “Maybe spruce it up a little bit. Dolly-ize it a little bit. It doesn’t matter to me. I know I look like a material girl, but I’m really not. I’ve got clothes that I’ve worn for years that I still wear with other things like a different blouse or whatever.
“I just wear what I’m comfortable in, and I just kind of live my life that way,” Dolly Parton said. “I have to be comfortable with me.”
However, Dolly will spend money on her outfits for the stage. Her dazzling dresses and accessories pop with sequins and crystals and other bling. That’s her identity. But the other clothes don’t need to be expensive, even when she can afford to buy out the mall.
And that’s probably why Dolly Parton and her popularity has such staying power. There’s nothing fake about her, save for her wigs. She laughs easily and shares her wealth with those less fortunate.
