Dolly Parton Makes Forbes’ List of America’s Wealthiest Self-Made Women

by Chris Haney

Forbes’ 2021 list of “America’s Richest Self-Made Women” has just been released, and country icon Dolly Parton is included on the coveted list.

The annual Forbes rankings announced 15 newcomers this year to the wealthiest earners list. Parton and the others all boast at least a $225 million net worth. Of the 15 newcomers though, Dolly Parton is the only musician to make the list this year.

Even during a year that many people and businesses suffered through the Covid-19 pandemic, Parton has thrived. The legendary musician and businesswoman recently put $500 million back into her Dollywood theme park and resort this summer. In addition, she just announced her own perfume called Scent From Above. And yet that doesn’t even include Dolly Parton’s continuing country music career and other ventures in the entertainment industry.

“In a year when most of the music industry slowed down, the country singer and co-owner of amusement park Dollywood was busier than ever,” Forbes said of the “Jolene” singer. “She wrote a song inspired by her experience during the pandemic, released her first-holiday album in 30 years, and starred in a Netflix film, Christmas on the Square.”

The outlet noted that Parton’s most significant contribution from last year is her $1 million donations to Covid-19 research. In fact, the huge donation helped Moderna develop its vaccine against the virus. However, it was her recent investment in Dollywood that put her on the famous Forbes list.

“The biggest piece of her net worth is her stake in the amusement park company,” the article says. “That helped push her wealth up to an estimated $350 million.”

Dolly Parton’s Dollywood Announces Major Expansion with $500 Million Resort

In early June, Dolly Parton announced that Dollywood would get an almost $500 million resort expansion. The country singer shared the exciting news for the theme park in an official announcement revealing construction plans for the HeartSong Lodge & Resort.

The HeartSong construction will be the first of multiple planned expansions. The Dollywood Parks & Resorts group is funding the half-a-billion-dollar campaign over the next decade, according to a WKRN report.

Construction has already begun on the HeartSong Lodge & Resort, but it will not be open to the public until later in 2023. The huge project will include a five-story, 302-room lodge. The lodge will feature an expansive indoor and outdoor pool complex. It will also include a 26,000-square-foot indoor and outdoor event space. The location of the lodge and resort will be adjacent to Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort and Spa.

In 2019, the Dollywood property added its latest addition to the area. It expanded with its $37 million Wildwood Grove development. Previous to that in 2015, another resort called the DreamMore opened on the property. Dolly Parton continues to revamp and expand her world-famous theme park so fans will have plenty to look forward to in the near future.
