The world didn’t know how badly it needed Chris Stapleton covering “9 to 5” in honor of Dolly Parton until it happened. Get a sneak peek at the star-studded performances in Netflix’s special right here.

If we’re going to celebrate anyone in 2021 – or any year, ever – Dolly Parton is always the safest bet. Even this, however, doesn’t do the icon justice. After nearly 5 decades of chart-topping hits and platinum album after platinum album, this legend manages to become more cherished by the year. This is in no small part due to her beyond-generous philanthropyentrepreneurial instincts, and down-to-earth, inclusive nature.

In celebration of all this and more, MusiCares named Dolly Parton their “Person of the Year” in 2019. The organization held a blowout, no-holds-barred concert and event in her honor February 8 of that year. And now Dolly’s fans worldwide can view the spectacle for themselves come April 7, 2021 – courtesy of streaming giant Netflix.

“In a star-studded evening of music and memories, a community of iconic performers honor Dolly Parton as the MusiCares Person of the Year,” Netflix announces alongside their trailer for the special Monday.

No breakdown will do this trailer justice, honestly. Instead, watch along for yourself below. Mark your calendars for April 7, Dolly fans – and be sure to subscribe to Netflix to catch the special if you haven’t already!

“In 2019, Dolly Parton became the first country-music artist to receive the MusiCares Person of the Year honor, following past recipients like Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and Carole King,” Rolling Stone cites of the special.

Thanks to a deal struck with Netflix, fans will now be able to witness this industry-only event in all its glory. Worth the price of a Netflix subscription alone? We think so!

“Taped just before the Grammy Awards in February 2019, the concert features artists like Katy Perry, Leon Bridges, and Miley Cyrus — Parton’s goddaughter — paying musical tribute to the country songwriter. Chris Stapleton, Shawn Mendes, Yolanda Adams, and Willie Nelson are also among the performers. Little Big Town host and sing for Parton,” the trade continues.

“It was such a joy and a humbling experience”

The immediate standout from the trailer comes in the form of Chris Stapleton‘s incredible cover of “9 to 5”. Who knew his trademark, gravel & grit would work so perfectly for this Grammy-winning country staple?

As for Dolly herself, the icon released a statement for the special.

“I am so happy that Netflix is going to be showing the MusiCares tribute to me. MusiCares has done so much for the people in this industry and continues to be a beacon of light for those in need,” Parton says. “I am so proud and impressed with all of the great artists. It was such a joy and a humbling experience to be able to sit and watch all of the great artists singing songs that I had written or had been a part of.”

We can’t wait to watch it for ourselves, Dolly!
