Several social media platforms are currently down. If you’ve tried to use Facebook, WhatsApp, or Instagram in the past few hours, you’re well aware. Even if you’re lucky enough to be able to scroll through Facebook or Instagram, the platforms’ messaging systems are down. However, Twitter is still up and running. As a result, many people are going to Twitter to get their social media fix. Dolly Parton took notice.

Earlier this afternoon, Dolly Parton fired off a tweet that contained a GIF from her iconic film 9 to 5. In the GIF, her character, Doralee Rhodes, storms through a set of batwing doors. In the caption, she likened that entrance to everyone flocking to Twitter while other major social platforms are down.

“Everyone showing up to Twitter today while Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp are down like…” the country icon quipped in the caption. Many of her fans flocked to the replies to tell her how much they loved the film. One even suggested that most people were coming to Twitter to see Dolly’s posts. I’d like to think that’s true.

The Social Media Outage

BBC reported that Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram are all down. However, there is no word on what caused the outage at this time. It is interesting to note that the Facebook corporation owns all three of those services. So, there’s a good chance that they suffered some kind of network hiccup that caused all three platforms to fail.

In a statement, a rep for Facebook said, “We are aware some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We are working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.”

Like Dolly Parton, the official Twitter account made light of the current social media outage. They sent out a tweet that said, “Hello literally everyone.”

Skip Social Media, Listen to Dolly Parton Instead

Take some advice from your friendly neighborhood Outsiders and use this as a reason to put down social media for a while.

You could take some time to have face-to-face conversations. On the other hand, you could make a phone call or something. You know, like we used to do back in the Stone Age before social media. Then again, you could spend some time disconnected. Toss your phone in a drawer and watch a movie, listen to some good tunes, or read a book. Heck, the weather is nice in most of the country right now, go enjoy the great outdoors. You’re only limited by your imagination.

If you choose to spin a record, crank up some Dolly Parton. She has a huge catalog of music to enjoy. However, I’d suggest Coat of Many Colors today is the 50th anniversary of the iconic album. The album contains some great songs and highlights Dolly’s stellar songwriting. So, give it a spin. Social media will be there when you get back, probably.
