Country music fans may have to prepare themselves for a Dolly Parton-less 2021. The country legend plans to take a break away from music and entertainment after a busy 2020.

In a recent interview, Parton revealed she plans to hang up the microphone for the next year.

“I’m sick of Dolly, ain’t you?” Parton told The New York Times. “With all the stuff coming out, it’s like, if I hear one more product, one more story, one more thing about Dolly Parton … I think, ‘Well, maybe I better hang it up for a while next year.’”

Her manager Danny Nozell shared a more tactical and business-like reason for the break. Parton and her management staff want to avoid over-saturating the market with Parton’s products. They hope the break in between will make Parton’s fanbase ravenous for the next big project she works on.

Dolly Parton Had a Productive 2020

Never let it be said a global pandemic stopped Parton from being one of the busiest artists in the country music industry. Parton has been all over the place this year, especially near the holidays, with projects across several mediums. Only Parton could produce and promote a new album, Netflix special, and book all in a short time frame of each other.

Parton even found time to do her part and fund research for a viable COVID-19 vaccine.

In October, Parton released the third Christmas album of her career, “A Holly Dolly Christmas.” The album featured collaborations with some pretty big names such as Jimmy Fallon, Michael Bublé, and Billy Ray Cyrus. Upon release, the album topped Billboard’s Country Albums and Top Holiday Albums.

Parton was in a festive mood this year. She also partnered with Netflix to make a “Dolly Parton’s Christmas on The Square,” which premiered on Nov. 22. She also took the time to interact with her fans and promote her new book “Dolly Parton, Songteller: My Life in Lyrics.” The book explores her musical career.

With such a busy schedule, it’s no wonder Parton wants some much needed rest.
