Country music legend Dolly Parton recently spoke with Oprah Winfrey during an appearance on Apple TV+’s “The Oprah Conversation” that will air this Friday.
A segment of the interview has been released where Parton, 74, touches on her age and well-known love for cosmetic surgery. However, the country star says that age is just a number.
“I don’t think about my life in terms of numbers. First of all, I ain’t never gonna be old because I ain’t got time to be old. I can’t stop long enough to grow old,” Parton explained. “I bet you I won’t look much different when I’m 95. If I live that long, because I’m like the Gabor sisters.”
Parton says she keeps up with her youthful appearance in two ways. The singer wears makeup to enhance her appearance, which she has joked about sleeping in so she’s always camera-ready. Additionally, she relies on cosmetic procedures, including plastic surgery. However, the country icon says what’s most important “comes from inside you.”
“I’m gonna look like a cartoon,” Parton joked. “I’ll have on the makeup. I’ll look as young as my plastic surgeons will allow me and [with] all the makeup and lighting and all that. But I think more than anything, it’s about what comes from inside you. It’s an attitude and you gotta shine from within. Sometimes, that can make you feel young and make you seem young to other people.”
Parton told Winfrey her goal is to “be the best I can be at whatever age.” The musician, famous for her looks, is even considering taking part in a new Playboy shoot for her 75th birthday in January. That is, as long as the photoshoot is “in good taste.”

Parton Amusingly Explains How She’s a ‘Self-Made Woman’
On Oct. 30, Parton shared a short but hilarious video on Instagram of the singer explaining why she is a “self-made woman.”
“Dollyisms 101 Where are all the self-made women at? ” the country artist’s post read.
In the video, the famous singer amusingly pokes fun of herself for her well-known history of cosmetic procedures.
“I am a self-made woman, and I have the doctor bills to prove it!” Parton jokes while winking at the camera and then laughing.
Parton has been very open about her years of cosmetic surgery. During a September 2019 interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Parton said she knows she looks artificial at times, but that she is “totally real.”
“It is true that I look artificial, but I believe that I’m totally real,” said Parton during the interview. “My look is really based on a country girl’s idea of glam. I wasn’t naturally pretty, so I make the most of anything I’ve got.”
CBS Sunday Morning co-host Tony Dokoupil stopped Parton, disagreeing with her comments on her looks. Yet, Parton doubled down while also having a laugh about how she looked that morning.
“I’m telling you, I’m not (naturally pretty),” Parton continued. “You should have seen me this morning before I got ready to see you. I’m serious, though. I’m not a natural beauty, but I can enhance it. Whatever it takes, I do. I try to make the most of everything.”
