Legendary country music superstar Dolly Parton has sat atop the entertainment industry ladder for well over a half-century.

Her hometown of Sevierville holds a competition each year in which contestants sing one of her songs in the style of their choosing. The competition takes place at the city’s annual Bluegrass and Barbeque festivals.

While her success as a songwriter is no surprise, the age at which she began writing songs might be. In an interview, Dolly Parton and actress Jennifer Anniston discuss their movie “Dumplin” collaboration. In the interview, Parton tells Anniston she got her first guitar at 7-years-old and that is also when she began writing.

“I learned to play (guitar) at age 7 and that is when I started to write my little songs,” Parton reveals. “I wrote little fun and easy songs.”

Anniston seems pleasantly surprised by Dolly Parton’s revelation and seeks confirmation of what she’s just heard.

“When you were 7-years-old?” she asks with a stunned look on her face. “Wow!”

Dolly Parton would go on to become one of the greatest songwriters and singers of all time, churning out hit songs like “Jolene” and many more. She has composed more than 3,000 songs during her illustrious and fruitful career. For her work, she was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999. She has sold more than 100 million albums throughout the world, making her one of the top-selling artists in history.

Beyond the music industry, Parton has also found success as an author, actress and humanitarian. She even has her own theme park “Dollywood” that resides near her hometown in Pigeon Forge. Nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountain, Dollywood is one of the most-visited adventure parks in the world.
