You know you’ve made it when you crash the internet. And Dolly Parton’s special edition ice cream has definitely made it.
As most of you know, Dolly Parton recently collaborated with Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream for a special edition flavor, Strawberry Pretzel Pie. Jeni’s released the flavor in-stores and online on April 8th. However, many fans were left disappointed and without ice cream when the website crashed. Turns out, Jeni’s ordering site experienced 50 times the traffic that they’re used to which led the website to crash. Jeni’s took to Twitter to explain the problem and apologize to fans.
After so many fans were left empty-handed, some people realized they could make quite a profit by selling the ice cream on the internet for absurdly high prices. One carton is listed on eBay for $1,000. Luckily, Jeni’s is remedying the situation with a re-release of Dolly Parton’s special edition flavor. Jeni’s announced that fans can purchase the flavor again today online only. The company made the announcement via Twitter. They wrote, “GOOD NEWS UPDATE! Strawberry Pretzel Pie pints will be available ONLINE ONLY this Thursday, April 15—and there will be two ways to get a pint!”
You can purchase Dolly Parton’s special edition flavor on Jeni’s website today at noon (ET). The 5,000 remaining pints that Jeni’s has in inventory will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. Then, at 3 pm ET today, you can preorder a pint that will be shipped out in August. Part of the proceeds from the sale will go to Dolly Parton’s charity, the Imagination Library.
If You Can’t Get Her Ice Cream, Try Dolly Parton’s Favorite Banana Pudding – It’s Her Mom’s Recipe
Banana pudding is a Southern staple and Dolly loves the dish so much she even included it in her 2006 cookbook, Dolly’s Dixie Fixin’s. In fact, the recipe is even used in Dollywood and the theme park has won best amusement park food four times by Amusement Today. The recipe comes from Dolly’s mom. So, what’s the key ingredient for Dolly’s mamma’s banana pudding recipe? Lots of love, of course! Oh, you’ll also need some bananas and a few ingredients. Check out the full recipe below.
What you’ll need:
- 3/4 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup flour
- 2 cups milk
- three lightly beaten egg yolks
- 1/2 stick of butter
- one teaspoon of vanilla
- vanilla wafers
- banana slices
How to make Dolly Parton’s bread pudding:
Start by making some vanilla pudding. Heat the sugar and the flour on the stove. Slowly stir in the milk and then add the egg yolks. Stir constantly for about 20 minutes, or until the pudding becomes thick. Once it’s the perfect pudding consistency, remove it from the heat and add the butter and vanilla. Once everything is mixed together, let it cool. While the pudding cools, line a serving dish with vanilla wafers and banana slices. Add some of your pudding on top. Then, continue layering until the dish is full. You’ve got yourself some of Dolly Parton’s homemade banana pudding. Enjoy!
