‘Dukes of Hazzard’ Star John Schneider Gives Shout Out to John Wayne in New Song ‘Cowboys Don’t Get Old’

Them Duke boys are at it again. Well, one of them is, anyway. John Schneider, best known as Bo Duke from Dukes of Hazzard, dropped a country album last Friday. However, back in August, he released a video for the single “Cowboys Don’t Get Old.”

The track is an ode to the lasting legacy of the American cowboy. In the video, the Dukes of Hazzard star walks into a bar, sits down, and starts singing. It’s a no-frills video befitting a tune about the cowboy lifestyle. During the song, he talks about how cowboys keep going even in their old age. They don’t let the passage of time slow them down. Cowboys just put on their boots, pull their hats down low, and do what needs to be done.

During the song, the Dukes of Hazzard star even gives a shout out to one of America’s most famous cowboys: John Wayne. He says that seeing The Duke on television as a kid made him want to be a cowboy. Wayne made him want to follow in his bootprints, riding wild and free without fear. He sings, “When I Was a young boy / I saw John Wayne ridin on the range  / I told my ole man, that’s what I want to be / Sitting up in that saddle tall, riding fast / not afraid to fall, yeah wild and free.”

The Duke of Hazzard Star Doesn’t Get Old

In “Cowboys Don’t Get Old,” the Dukes of Hazzard star sings about both the American cowboy and himself. He starts off in the first person, addressing those who think he might be too old to go on doing what he does. After all, Schneider turned sixty-one today. However, at the end of the first verse, he says “There ain’t no last rodeo,” for a cowboy like him.

He has been going strong for decades and shows no sign of slowing down. In fact, the Truck On album isn’t just a standalone project. It contains several songs from Schneider’s 2020 film Stand on It!. The Dukes of Hazzard star wrote, directed, and starred in the film. Check out the teaser trailer.

In the film, Schneider plays a different kind of cowboy. As you can see from the trailer, Stand on It! is like a cross between Smokey and the Bandit and Dukes of Hazzard. It’s packed with comedy, action, and most importantly, fast cars.

If you want to get your hands on the film or the album, you can do so at John Schneider’s online store. You can also stream the album on Spotify.
