Rods out, sun’s out, guns out! Don’t worry, that’s not a euphemism. Instead, it’s photographic proof that Eric Church and Morgan Wallen go fishing together.
It’s no shock to any country fan when a country star goes fishing. Anglin’ is to country as oxygen is to breathin’! The two are practically one and the same.
So what is shocking about this photo? Seeing Eric Church without a hat and sunglasses. Meanwhile, Morgan Wallen is wearing both a hat and sunglasses. Plot twist!
Regardless of attire, the duo look to be having an excellent time in the sun. Lots of sun at that, as these country boys are looking as pink as Eric Church’s shorts. If Katherine Blasingame were present, these two would have had sunscreen on. Guaranteed. And hopefully some tick spray.
“Hang a sign on the door of my life,” Wallen captures the sun-kissed photo on Twitter Tuesday. While no information is given on their whereabouts, rods are out (again, not a euphemism) and smiles are on.
We still think “Rods out! Sun’s out! Guns out!” is a far better caption for this tweet.
Eric Church & Morgan Wallen Have Had Very Different Years
Despite this lackluster lyrical caption, these two gents look like they’re having a mighty fine day. It couldn’t come at a better time for Morgan Wallen, either, as the country singer has made his last several years a lot harder on himself than they should’ve been.
While Eric Church has been riding high as the CMA’s “Entertainer of the Year,” Wallen has been swept up in one controversy after another. Sure, his music has been absolutely fire, with “Dangerous” breaking all sorts of long-standing records (of all genres). But the young man himself still has a long way to go before he’ll be “Entertainer of the Year” material like his buddy Church, who’s fully capable of representing the genre in a responsible, positive, and meaningful manner.
Even before footage hit the internet of Wallen’s highly-publicized racial slur, the musician was arrested in May 2020 for public intoxication and disorderly conduct on Nashville’s Lower Broadway (charges were abandoned in July 2020). Then, in October 2020, Saturday Night Live canceled his appearance as its musical guest. The cancellation came over his violation of COVID-19 protocols while partying with fans during a weekend in Alabama.
To his credit, however, Morgan Wallen is fully aware that he needs to work on himself. And if his latest update to fans is any indication, he is hellbent on putting said work in.
“I’ve needed this time off. I came to Nashville at 22. And I never really gave myself a chance to survey the man I became during that time,” he hand-wrote in his April 13th open letter to fans.
“I hope there’s a big difference between the 27-year-old me now and the 32-year-old me someday… I will always strive to be better,” Wallen added.
With Eric Church as a mentor, here’s to hoping Morgan Wallen (and country music fans) get this wish.
