Eric Church Releases New Song Honoring Route 91 Las Vegas Shooting Victims

Eric Church is dedicating his latest song to the victims of the Route 91 Las Vegas shooting. The country singer announced his latest single, which released on Oct. 30, via social media.

The post features a drawing of Church’s signature sunshades, played to a clip from the song. In the post, Church wrote, “‘Through My Ray-Bans,’ a song written in honor of Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival fans is out today. Listen now at the link in bio.”

Eric Church Played in Las Vegas Prior to the Shooting

Church honored the victims of the Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival shooting. The attack happened in 2017 in Las Vegas. Steve Paddock, a 64-year-old Nevada man, opened fire on concert-goers from the balcony of his nearby hotel room. In total, he killed 59 people in the attack and wounded more than 700, according to People.

Church has a personal connection to the attack. He had played on the same stage 48 hours previous to the attack. According to Rolling Stone, the singer dealt with a form of survivor’s guilt in the song “Why Not Me” since then.

“I shook everybody’s hand and I thanked them for coming,” he said onstage at the Opry. “I came back up the left side, saw smiling faces, hands in the air, and pictures being taken … 48 hours later, those places where I stood was carnage.”

Church’s new single follows “Hell of a View,” which the country singer dropped in early October. Fans of Church have been eagerly waiting for the single since the singer teased it all the way back in April. Back then, Church released a video set to various crowds attending his concerts.

“Where there once were roars, now there are just echoes. The handshakes and the hugs of yore are now too dangerous,” Church said in the video. The singer commented on the COVID-19 pandemic. “But I don’t believe in fear. I don’t believe in panic. I don’t believe, in all its complexity, this damn virus has any idea what it’s up against: the American resolve.”
