Garth Brooks Hopes This Is ‘Eventually the Year We Lose the Masks’

Garth Brooks is ready to say good bye to 2020 for good. He says so himself in a recent episode of “Inside Studio G.”

“Happy New Year to everybody,” Brooks says. “May this be the year that we eventually lose the masks. Could it be? We’ll see.”

“There’s so much to celebrate… getting out of 2020… there’s so much to celebrate,” Brooks continues. After all, he was celebrating his 59th birthday on Feb. 7.

Garth Brook Goes Diamond Status, Twice, In 2020

All that glitters is gold, but Garth Brooks seems to like diamonds.

The Thunder Rolls” singer then gives a tour of his new studio. He points out two framed pictures behind him and explains what they are for.

“2020, as hard of a year it was for people, we were fortunate in music that we received our what, eighth or ninth diamond?” Brooks questions.

Well, when you receive an unprecedented eighth and ninth diamond award in the same year, we’re sure it’s hard to keep track of.

Brooks earned his eighth diamond for The Chase on Jan. 23, 2020. It was certified for 10 million sales and puts Brooks’ numbers at 156 million overall.

What’s more, the Oklahoma native then earned his ninth diamond on Aug. 14, 2020. Brooks’ 1993 album In Pieces was certified for sales of 10 million units.

According to WVIK, Garth now has nine Diamond-certified albums: Garth Brooks, No Fences, Ropin’ the Wind, The Chase, The Hits, Sevens, Double Live, The Ultimate Hits, and In Pieces.

“The crazy thing that I try to…I try to digest in my head is…Garth Brooks, No Fences, Ropin’, The Chase, In Pieces and The Hits—the first six albums of our career—you guys have taken Diamond,” said Garth on his Facebook Live series, “Inside Studio G,” on Aug. 17. “That’s crazy.”

As a matter of fact, Garth Brooks is the only artist in any genre to have nine albums certified for sales of 10 million units in the United States.

“Now, go ahead—ask me, ask me! What is my favorite Diamond of the nine Diamonds? I’ll tell you right now, The Chase. Hands down,” adds Brooks. “It was just so loving, so…so forgiving, so patient, so ‘all those beautiful things’ [but] man, did it get the floor wiped up with it with reviews and just…stuff. And so that was the album that really, really was my baby.”

Garth’s New Year so Far

Garth Brooks has had a busy start to the 2021 year. After all, he did perform the National Anthem at the Presidential Inauguration this year. Then he celebrated turning 59-years-old.

He and his wife’s, Trisha Yearwood, cover of “Shallow” is now streaming. And he’s going to be performing at the Grand Ole Opry 95th Anniversary Special.
