Every great couple needs a great song. And country music power couple, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are no different. In the latest installment of his Inside Studio G, Brooks revealed what song he considers to be the best reflection of their relationship.

Brooks considers the song “For the Last Time” to be their official couple’s song. The tune is honestly a great pick for Yearwood and Brooks, considering Yearwood wrote the song herself. The song chronicles their decades-long love story and also ties it up in a nice bow.

“If we’re going to pick a song for the both of us. I think ‘For the first time, I’m in love for the last time,'” Brooks said. “That’s kind of just our life story pretty much.”

Trisha Yearwood on Her Song

“For the Last Time” featured on her album “Let’s Be Frank” in 2019. That album was an ode and tribute to the late great singer Frank Sinatra. “For the Last Time” ended up being the only original song on the album, written by Yearwood. But she poured her heart and soul into the tune.

In a 2019 interview with Taste of Country, Yearwood summed up the song as her great tribute to her and Brooks’s relationship. It’s appropriate considering music was what drew them together in the first place.

“It was the first thing we’ve written together that really was about us,” Yearwood told the outlet. “To me the sentiment is, no offense to anyone that came before, I understand now why none of that worked. Because this is where I’m supposed to be. That really does describe us.”

Yearwood and Brooks met for the first time as up-and-coming singers in the 1980s. Both hit Nashville hoping to make it big among the flux of country music hopefuls. They got their start as demo singers. But when Brooks got his big break, he brought Yearwood along for the ride. He invited her to sing vocals on his debut album and also let her open shows at his concerts.

Yearwood quickly became a country music superstar in her own right. And they stayed friends for years performing side by side. But they didn’t start dating until the 2000s when they married and have been together ever since.

“I’ve always said I was never this sappy, I’m-so-in-love-with-you person. I’ve never been that girl,” Yearwood said. “And I just thought people that were… there was something wrong with them,” she says, laughing. “And now I’m that girl. I get it now.”
