Even one of the most successful country music artists of all time can feel a little spooked about getting back into the music industry after years away.

As of 2020, country superstar Garth Brooks is the only artist in music history to release nine albums that are all diamond status in the U.S. He is one of the world’s best-selling music artists and has sold over 170 million records.

He’s been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum, and has earned two Grammy Awards so far. He took a break from recording and performing earlier in his career due to conflicts between his personal and career life.

Garth Brooks Talks his Hiatus from Music

He was married to his college sweetheart at the time, Sandy Mahl. Garth Brooks had gotten the attention of the country music world quickly and intensely. However, his marriage had started to suffer in the process, so he had to put family first. He did not release any new music from 2000 to 2014. His comeback song was “People Loving People” off his “Man Against Machine” album.

“Once children come into the mix, children take the lead. That’s it. They didn’t want to come in this place. It wasn’t their choice, we brought them in. So even though Sandy and I were not going to be able to complete our marriage, we still had our children to raise,” Brooks said, according to an interview with “CBS This Morning.”

He had three daughters with his first wife — Taylor, August, and Allie. The country music star is now married to Trisha Yearwood.

After over a decade without new music, Garth Brooks stormed back into the industry, but it wasn’t a fearless situation. He was afraid of how the industry and country music fans would respond to his return. Although he wasn’t releasing new music during that time, Brooks was still periodically performing. He said he was “scared to death” to come back from his hiatus.

“Country is the best place to be. Because, one, you have the most loyal audience there could possibly be, and they will wait for you,” Brooks said.

Brooks and Future Music

His most recent album is “Fun,” which he released on November 20, 2020. He is also going on tour over the summer. He will be in Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, and Cheyenne first, all of which are sold out. His concert at the Rice-Eccles Stadium at the University of Utah will be helping local artists and students.

The concert has so far raised about $50,000. According to KSL, about half of that money is going to the school’s arts programs and the other half is for Utah artists hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.

While Garth Brooks may have been nervous to make a comeback, he continues to be widely popular. In fact, a fellow musician was nervous to even sing a legendary Garth Brooks tune. Kelly Clarkson performed “The Dance” in front of Brooks at the 43rd annual Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C. where he was one individual being honored.

On “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” she revealed she started to feel nervous beforehand, which she normally doesn’t feel before performing. However, she talked about just how much of an emotional connection she has to the track. It was enough emotion to then make Garth Brooks emotional.

“I’m already wishing I had a mask on so I could do this … And then the whole band kicks in. It’s just so pretty. That woman is a true friend to a song. She’s amazing,” Brooks said, according to ET Online.
