U.S. Veteran George Strait is honoring his fellow ‘brave men and women who have served our country’ this Veterans Day with a social media tribute.

Lifelong fans of country icon & legend George Strait know he himself is a U.S. Military Veteran. Serving in the United States Army from 1971 to 1975, Strait rose to the rank of Corporal before starting his music career.

As a result, today means everything to the star. “Happy Veterans Day to all of the brave men and women who have served our country and gave the ultimate sacrifice,” Strait posts in his tribute across all social media platforms.

In turn, we want to celebrate George Strait and his service to our country. Below, we’ve gathered a few facts Strait fans may not know about this beloved icon and his military history.

As mentioned, George Strait Served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1975 and achieved the rank of Corporal.

Strait spent his final two years of active duty in Hawaii at Schofield Barracks.

He was part of the famed 25th Infantry Division, nicknamed “Tropic Lightning”.

While in the military, Strait would perform country music within Army-sponsored band, Rambling Country.

At the time, Strait would also perform with country group Santee while off-duty.

Strait married his wife Norma during his first year of active duty in 1971. She traveled with him, and gave birth to their first child the same year.

Strait was honorably discharged in 1975.

After this, Strait attended college at Texas State, which was then known as Southwest Texas State University.

This may seem like ancient history to some. For Strait, however, it is as real today as it’s ever been. He often discusses his respect for and love of his time in the U.S. Army, alongside his music.

George Strait Celebrates The Road Less Traveled

Recently, he is also celebrating The Road Less Traveled. His famously perfect country album turns 19 this year. It is, without a doubt, an album worth celebrating 19 years on.

Strait’s prolific career has resulted in dozens of albums. And TRLT is, shockingly, his twenty-first studio album. Strait and MCA Nashville cut the record in 2001. It went Certified Platinum that same year, solidifying Strait’s staying power over twenty albums into his career.
