George Strait Is Hosting a Honky Tonk Hangout Contest in Honor of Album’s Anniversary Release Date

Standing at the top of the country music world is where you will find legendary singer and songwriter George Strait.

Strait is simply one of the best-selling and most influential musical artists of all time in any genre. There aren’t many awards or recognitions out there that the now 68-year-old star hasn’t won. His list of achievements stack up against not only any country music artist but also any artist in any genre.

Strait has sold over 100 million albums worldwide and that number makes him one of the top-selling artists ever. His RIAA certifications include 13 multi-platinum albums, 33 platinum albums and 38 gold albums. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Strait is the 12th best-selling album recording artist in the United States overall.

Strait’s most recent studio album, and his 30th overall, “Honky Tonk Time Machine,” came out just two years ago. With the two-year anniversary of the album’s release coming up soon, Strait is in the mood for a celebration. He took to social media on Tuesday to tell his fans all about the upcoming “Honky Tonk Hangout” contest.

“In honor of ‘Honky Tonk Time Machine”s release anniversary on March 29, we are hosting another contest in the Honky Tonk Hangout,” Strait says in the post. “Hit that link in bio to join the fun!”

He concludes his Instagram post with a smiling cowboy emoji. The post took in more than 4,000 “likes” within an hour of going live. It also got dozens of comments with many Strait followers asking aloud if we might be getting new music in the future. Strait also includes a link to the Honky Tonk Hangout’s Facebook page, which gives further details on the contest. The Honky Tonk Hangout Facebook group boasts more than 35,000 members.

Honky Tonk Time Machine has been a success for Strait, selling 143,200 copies in the two years since its release. It debuted in the fourth slot on the Billboard 200 chart. It eventually took the top spot on the top country albums Billboard chart.

The album’s first single “Every Little Honky Talk Bar,” was released on February 11, 2019.
