George Strait and Miranda Lambert Open Up About Touring Together, Duetting ‘How Bout Them Cowgirls’

We consider Miranda Lambert one lucky lady. Why? Because George Strait just doesn’t share the stage with anybody. He says himself that he’s rarely ever done duets in his career.

“In fact, my whole career, I didn’t sing with a lot of people,” George Strait explains in an interview. But when asked about his fellow Texan, Strait opens up about the rising star at the time, Miranda Lambert.

“Well Miranda Lambert is a great artist,” he says. “She’s a great singer, songwriter, performer… I’ve toured with her before so I knew how good she was.”

When the King of Country Music pays you all of those compliments, it’s worth its weight in gold. It’s what any rising star wants to hear, but when it comes straight from the horse’s mouth, it means more. Strait continues explaining how he and Lambert ended up singing together.

“She chose to do ‘How ‘Bout Them Cowgirls’ and ‘Run.’ I think those are great songs,” Strait says. “I love those two songs.”

“I thought it was a great choice for her,” he admits. Then he pays her the ultimate comment, “I was really excited about doing them with her, and she just killed it.”

Strait says Lambert ‘Totally Killed It’

As a matter of fact, Strait said, “She totally killed it.”

“She’s got that attitude and she showed it that night in Dallas,” George Strait continues. “It was really fun.”

“How ‘Bout Them Cowgirls” is George Strait’s 2007 hit. The song reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs.

Furthermore, Strait and Lambert performed “Run” with their duet marking the end of “The Road Less Traveled” tour. “Run” is Strait’s hit from 2001. The song peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts in December 2001.

The final concert took place at Jerry Jones’ AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on June 7, 2014. The George Strait and Miranda Lambert duets put up a good argument why Texas is one of the best states. It produced two successful country music artists that have a boatload of hits – and not to mention awards.

Miranda Lambert Opens Up About George Strait on Tour

If our first tour included opening for George Strait, we’d drop everything and go buy a lottery ticket. Miranda Lamber not only proved that she’s lucky, but also that’s she’s good enough to tour with George Strait. The “Nashville Star” contestant finished her stint on the talent show and then joined Strait 2006 tour.

Strait taught her the ropes when it comes to touring and being out on the road. But Lambert doesn’t share any old memory that she has with George Strait. She explains how the King smoothed things over with her father.

The “Bluebird” signer explains that she had gotten her first tattoo when she was on the road with Strait. Fans of Miranda Lambert know exactly what tattoo she’s talking about. It’s the pistol with wings that takes up the majority of her left forearm. However, her father wasn’t too happy when he found out his daughter was now an inked woman.

“My dad was on tour with me too,” Lambert tells the story. “He was doing all my merchandise. We were all riding same the bus, we had one bus, and my dad was really mad and he wouldn’t talk to me.”

Mending Broken Fences

We like to think that this shows that Strait understands how important family is. He went out of his way to help his prodigy mends things with her father.

“Somehow George found out about the drama between me and my dad and he sent out for like 75 press-on tattoos, fake tattoos,” Miranda Lambert continues to explain. “We went in to take our end-of-tour pictures and George rolled up his sleeve and had a fake tattoo under his sleeve. The whole group, like 60 people, for the end of the tour picture had fake tattoos.”

“And my dad started laughing and my dad even had one, and sort of broke the ice between me and my dad and he talked to me again and wasn’t mad anymore,” she says. “So I like to say that George Strait helped mend my dad and I’s relationship over the tattoo incident,” Lambert says, laughing.
