George Strait Chimes In With His ‘Red Flag’ and We Couldn’t Agree More

George Strait speaks – or should I say sings – a lot of truth. He only has one big flag, and that is when she forgets to write this down.

Alright, it’s a play on one of his biggest hits and hopping on a trend, but we couldn’t agree more.

Written by Dana Hunt Black and Kent Robbins, “Write This Down” has Strait understanding that his skill at communicating love to his wife may not be up to par. To fix things, he mentions that maybe she should write down his every word so she’ll never forget his love for her.

You shouldn’t need us to remind you of the lyrics, but Strait sings, “Baby, write this down. Take a little note to remind you in case you didn’t know. Tell yourself I love you and I don’t want you to go. Write this down. Take my words and read ’em every day, keep ’em close by. Don’t you let ’em fade away. So you’ll remember what I forgot to say. Write this down.”

If you don’t write this down? Well, according to George, it’s a major red flag.

Strait recorded this tune in 1999. Released on his record “Always Never The Same,” the song was Strait’s 35th Number One Hit on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks – which is now the Hot Country Songs chart. In addition, it reached Number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100, a testament to Strait’s success in crossing over to other genres.

In 2020, Strait even conducted his own parody of the single. He filmed his own public service announcement advocating for COVID-19 safety using the lyrics of the song.

Why George Strait is the ‘King of Country’

George Strait has always been nicknamed as the “King of Country” but it’s the truth. He’s known for mixing unconventional country and contemporary country. He’s a pioneer who officially shifted the way that country music is done opening the door for other crossover artists like Shania Twain and Garth Brooks.

Strait has 60 number-one singles. That’s right, 60. Can you name them all? Strait has the highest count of number-one singles in country music history. Some of those singles include “Give It Away,” “It Just Comes Natural,” “You Look So Good in Love,” and many, many more. He even has a compilation album of 50 number-one hits.

Strait has been named Artist of the Decade by the Academy of Country Music, and is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. He’s a Texan of the Year, an ACM Milestone Award, a CMA Entertainer of the Year. He has an ASCAP Founders Award, a Legend of Live Award, along with so many more.

You should write this one down too in case you forget.
