Ahead of Memorial Day weekend, country music icon George Strait has shared a patriotic video in honor of the men and women who have sacrificed their lives while serving our country.

In 2019, Strait paid tribute to servicemen and women on the song “The Weight of the Badge.” Following a ceremony for Strait where the singer received the Texan of the Year Award, Strait spoke with a police officer at the event. The encounter made an impression on the musician, and he decided to turn the experience into a song.

“The Weight of the Badge” is the final result of that meeting. The track tells the story of an officer who followed in the footsteps of his father. It debuted at #56 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart off his 2019 album Honky Tonk Time Machine. Yet the same sentiment about law enforcement can be applied to our military personnel who have died to protect our country’s freedoms as well.

George Strait’s team put together a lyric video for “The Weight of the Badge.” The short clip shows various pictures of our first responders, firemen, police, and military.

“Watching our backs, facing our fears. Lord knows it ain’t no easy task. Keeping us safe, under the weight of the badge. He swore that oath, to protect and serve. Pours his heart and soul, in to both those words,” Strait sings in the song.

“Remembering those who carry the weight of the badge this Memorial Day Weekend,” George Strait’s account tweeted.

George Strait, Bubba Wallace, and More Pay Tribute on Memorial Day Weekend

While George Strait shared a touching video to honor the fallen on Memorial Day weekend, others have also followed suit.

NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace recently unveiled the first look at his new No. 23 race car just in time for Memorial Day. The patriotic-themed vehicle will honor America’s military men and women. His DoorDash sponsored Toyota features a primarily black paint job with white accents. Even though red, white and blue is absent from the paint scheme, there are other patriotic elements to the car.

The No. 23 car will also feature stars and stripes taken from the American flag. In addition, Staff Sergeant Paul Velazquez, who gave his life for our country, will be remembered with his name on Wallace’s car. “SSG VELAZQUEZ” will feature prominently on the racer’s windshield.

Past certain individuals paying their respects, some brands and companies are sharing tributes through their products. For example, Budweiser has released a series of three patriotic-themed beer cans just in time for Memorial Day weekend.

The limited edition cans are appropriately decorated in red, white, and blue. The cans are adorned with stars and stripes, obviously inspired by the American flag’s iconic design. Additionally, the 145-year-old beer maker included the first four lines of “The Star-Spangled Banner” on each 12-ounce can.

Regardless of how you honor America’s fallen heroes this weekend, we should all be thankful for the men and women who protect our great country domestically and from afar.
