George Strait is a legend and there’s no arguing about that. This fun fact just solidifies his all-time superstar status.
George Strait’s “Live” video was the first video by any country artist to receive a Platinum Certification Award. This recent tweet by the official Twitter account for the King of Country music says so.
The post starts out by asking fans, “Did you know?”
There’s a photo included with the social media post. Strait is holding an acoustic guitar with Mother of Pearl inlayed on the neck of the instrument.
Fans love the tweet. “I can believe it he’s one of our favorites we still play the chair love it,” shares one. “Because you’re the BEST!!!” writes another. “I didn’t, but that’s not a surprise! Thanks for inspiring my music career!” comments this person.
George Strait’s ‘Live!’ Concert Performance
For the first time in Strait’s career, the multi-platinum country superstar is captured during one of his iconic concerts. The hour-long special is filmed at the Dallas Reunion Arena on New Year’s night in 1986-1987. Strait is backed by his famed band, the Ace In the Hole Band.
Strait plays many of his hits during the performance, like “The Cowboy Rides Away,” “Amarillo By Morning,” and “Oceanfront Property.” The setlist for Strait includes 16 songs in all.
George Strait ranks as No. 3 for the most gold and platinum albums sold in music history. That’s behind Elvis Presley and The Beatles. In addition, he has 44 No. 1 singles on “Billboard’s Hot Country Songs.” The King also has the most No. 1 albums and singles, gold albums, platinum albums, and multi-platinum albums in all of country music.
As for awards, Strait also holds that record. He has 22 CMA and ACM Awards, more than anyone in country music history.
The record-breaking doesn’t stop there. During the finale of his farewell tour in 2014, it drew a crowd of 104,793 people, a record for the largest indoor concert in North America.
What’s more, George Strait is one of the highest-grossing country artists of all time. The Texan played in a high school rock and roll band. Little did the young man know that one day his career would be talked about for days on end.
Strait’s debut album, released on MCA Records, was a huge success. His first single, “Unwound,” hit No. 6 on the Billboard country chart. But before there was Strait Country, the aspiring singer-songwriter recorded a few songs with an indie record label, D Records.
