Country legend George Strait has been thinking about the song “I Just Want to Dance With You” lately if his Instagram account is any guide.
“‘I gotta feeling that you have a heart like mine, So let it show, let it shine.’ #IJustWannaDanceWithYou,” Strait posted on Monday. Alongside that, he posted a throwback photo of himself grinning while performing live.
George Strait Recalls His 34th No. 1 Single
John Prine and Roger Frederick Cook wrote “I Just Want to Dance With You,” which released in April 1998. It was the first single off his album One Step at a Time. And it went on to become Strait’s 34th No. 1 single on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart.
If Strait is dancing with anybody, it’ll be his wife of nearly 50 years, Norma Strait. The couple had two children: a son, George Strait Jr., who goes by Bubba, and a daughter who died in a car accident at 13 years old.
Bubba Strait has been living up to his dad’s legacy, according to Wide Open Country. He went to college at Texas A&M, where he got interested in rodeo. He later became a team roper with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. And in 2006, he took part in the same Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo where his dad was performing.
But Bubba has also inherited a musical streak. He co-wrote the songs “Living for the Night,” “Out of Sight, Out of Mind,” “He’s Got That Something Special” and “Arkansas Dave,” too. “Living for the Night” ultimately reached No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.
‘Love Is Everything’
As for Strait himself, he said he’s had a long career, but he still enjoys writing and performing new music.
“It’s fun to create new music,” Strait told the Tennessean in 2016. “Even if it’s not a song you wrote, it’s still fun to go out there and see what you can do.”
“Every time I go in the studio, I want to make the best album that I’ve ever done in my life,” Strait added. “So you always, you know, are searching for those songs, to try to make that happen.”
And as for his wife and son, Strait said it was his love for his family that helped inform his choice of “Love Is Everything” as the title for his 40th studio album.
“I came across ‘Love Is Everything,’ and I’m like, ‘Well that says it all, pretty much, right there,’” he said. “Because love is everything. I mean, the world revolves around love.”
