Iowa State Fairgoers were treated to an incredible performance by the one-and-only Blake Shelton Friday night in Des Moines. As if that wasn’t enough, however, the country music star had a special surprise up his sleeve for the crowd up during the Friday evening sold-out performance.
Of course, concert-goers were delighted to hear Blake Shelton perform some of his most popular hits such as “Neon Light,” “Austin,” and “God’s Country,” as he took the Grandstand stage in Des Moine this weekend. However, the crowd went wild when the country superstar started strumming some familiar chords on his guitar.
During the performance, Blake Shelton took a break from his own music repertoire as he pulled out a number that was made famous decades ago by his wife of just one month.
The country music star didn’t say a word…or “speak” as he began to play the first few bars of the 1996 No Doubt hit “Don’t Speak.” Soon, the crowd realized what Shelton was playing, and they went absolutely wild.
Then, right on cue, out stepped Gwen Stefani to perform the song with her husband. And, of course, the entrance was met with a chorus of screams and cheers from the audience of just over 16,000. The newlyweds performed a flawless rendition of the 1996 hit. And, it wasn’t until after they were finished that the country music star introduced his new wife.

“Say hello to Gwen Shelton!” the country superstar exclaimed over the cheers. The couple met when Gwen Stefani joined Blake and the other coaches on the hit NBC show, “The Voice.”
Stefani’s surprise appearance delighted the 16,873 fans Friday evening.
During Gwen Stefani’s on-stage visit, the newlywed stars performed “I Could Be Happy Anywhere With You” and “Nobody But You” in addition to “Don’t Speak.”
Gwen Stefani Slays During Iowa State Fair Performance
This was Gwen Stefani’s first time performing onstage at the Iowa State Fair, and Shelton’s second. The country superstar graced the Des Moines, Iowa Fair Grounds grandstand stage in 2008. He performed this year with a fellow country singer, Tracy Lawerence.
Before the popular midwestern fair kicked off earlier this week, both Blake Shelton and fellow country superstar Chris Stapleton sold out their shows before the start of the week. Selling more than 15,000 tickets by Friday. This left only standing-room-only spaces for last-minute ticket purchases.
“I’m genuinely shocked at how many people are out here,” Shelton said shortly after taking the stage Friday evening. “Tons of people smashed up in here.”
After his set, Shelton left the stage after a rousing rendition of his hit song, “Boys ‘Round Here.”
However, the country star was up for an encore as he returned to the stage for an encore. Blake finished his set performing “Footloose” and “God Gave Me You” before officially signing off.
“Please have me back here again sometime Iowa,” Shelton said as he said goodnight to the crowd. “I love you!”
