Happy Birthday Carrie Underwood: Relive the Country Superstar’s Best Moments

Today, the country music icon and the role model for a generation of young women Carrie Underwood turns 38 years old. Let’s take a look back at some of her unforgettable moments over the course of her career.

Since winning American Idol in 2005, Underwood has remained a consistent female artist in country music. Over the course of the fifteen years since then, she has always had a song hanging out on the charts. It feels like every year she has a new album or a new single that blows everyone away. Here are some of the top times we have been blown away by Carrie Underwood.

It All Started with American Idol

Before the Grammy Awards, the ACM awards, and the CMA Awards, Carrie Underwood was a contestant on American Idol. In 2005, in season four of the show, Carrie Underwood fought her way through all of the rounds to the finals. She went on to defeat Bo Bice in the finale of the fourth season.

Her reaction to winning the competition was almost as exciting as her final performance. For her last song, Carrie Underwood sang “Inside Your Heaven,” which appeared as a single off of her debut album. Through tears of joy, Underwood belted out her first single of many that would debut as number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Carrie Underwood as Carrie Underworm!

In 2010, five years after breaking onto the country music scene, Carrie Underwood made the most important debut of her career. She debuted her Carrie Underwood character on Sesame Street on February 11, 2010. For her debut, Underworm sang her original song “The Worm Anthem” that she had written specifically for the show. The famous NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon introduced her.

Standing up for People’s Rights

After winning American Idol and having her debut single reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, Underwood jumped straight to the top of country music. Her words held influence over every young country fan in America. Luckily, she used her voice to stand up for what she believed was right when pushing for gay marriage. Her words in Tennessee helped lead the charge to legalize gay marriage in Tennessee in June of 2012.

Carrie Underwood Takes Over Sunday Night Football

In 2013, Carrie Underwood took over Faith Hill’s job as the Sunday Night Football introduction singer. Before every Sunday Night game on NBC, we get to watch Underwood belt the iconic “Waiting all day for Sunday Night” theme song. While not much about the song changes every year, we always look forward to hearing a couple of minutes of Carrie Underwood before the game gets underway.

Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher have Isaiah

In 2015, Carrie Underwood and her husband Mike Fisher gave birth to their first son, Isaiah. Just last month he turned six years old. His mother helped him celebrate his big day with a super cool Power Rangers cake.

Isaiah has also appeared in some of his mother’s music. Just last year, Carrie Underwood featured her young son on her Christmas album. The mother and son performed a duet on the classic Christmas tune “Little Drummer Boy.”

Carrie Underwood talked about sharing music with her son. “I’ve had that gift (of music) as far back as I can remember, bursting into song at the drop of a hat, something that made me happy and others too. Like lots of kids. My kids, for instance. Our older son, Isaiah, was only a toddler when I’d sing to him, ‘Jesus Loves Me‘, this I know,” in his car seat and he’d sing right back, “Yes, Jesus loves me.” Almost before he could talk, he was singing.”
