Happy Birthday Jay DeMarcus: Celebrating the Rascal Flatts Bassist’s Best Moments

Jay DeMarcus is celebrating his half-century birthday today, April 26. It feels almost like yesterday that the incredible bassist joined Rascal Flatts.

The country bassist began his professional music career in 1992. His musical talent is often understated, typically left out of the conversation because of his time as Rascal Flatts bassist. In addition to playing the bass guitar, he is a skilled pianist, drummer, singer, and guitar player.

He is also an incredible producer, and his work has been featured all over the place – TV shows, movies, and the like. All of that makes for a pretty impressive resumé.

For his 50th birthday, let’s take a quick look at some of his most impressive accomplishments. His musical career spans almost three decades, so there is a lot to cover. Being at the top of the musical world for that long is an outstanding accomplishment all by itself.

Jay DeMarcus began his career in 1992 while he was still in college in Tennessee. Then, in 1993, he started a contemporary Christian music group that saw him call the state home.

In 1997, he convinced his second cousin, Gary LeVox, to move to Nashville with him. Initially, the two helped produce Michael English’s album Gospel. They also sang a few songs on the album.

Afterward, in 1999, the two cousins formed Rascal Flatts, and the genius of their music took off. Since they formed the band, they have recorded fourteen number one hits. The band also has recorded eleven studio albums.

More importantly, Jay Demarcus was instrumental in helping the Rascal Flatts win six consecutive Country Music Association Vocal Group of the Year. That streak started in 2003, an exceedingly rare accomplishment.

Jay DeMarcus Turns 50 Today And Should Do Plenty Of Celebrating

In 2012, he was awarded his own star on the “Hollywood Walk of Fame.” If that isn’t a cause for celebration every day of your life, then nothing is.

But, in 2020, Rascal Flatts decided to go their separate ways. After an incredibly successful run together, they felt that it was best to carry on alone. Jay DeMarcus, at the time, said the decision was bittersweet.

“I’m gonna miss the times that we shared together that no one knows about, that no one sees,” he said. But he was also looking forward to creating music on his own again. He has certainly gotten to work quickly since late 2020. In 2021, though, Jay DeMarcus is still making music on his own.

All the same, we at Outsider wish Jay DeMarcus all the best on his milestone birthday.
