Today, Country music star Kane Brown celebrates his 27th birthday. Here is all you need to know about the “What Ifs” singer.
Brown got his start in 2013 when he tried out for The X Factor. It was rumored that producers on the show were interested in making Brown part of a boyband, which didn’t sit well with him. He eventually left the show to many people’s surprise. While he wasn’t a finalist, it did put his name on the map.
He admits his love for music came when he and his mother used to watch American Idol as a kid. They used to sing back and forth and pretend to be judges. He gives all the credit for his success to her.
“She just says that she is happy I don’t have to suffer like we used to, whenever I was younger.”
Brown Before X-Factor
In Brown’s younger days, the family used to struggle financially, including battling homelessness as well as physical abuse.
He started to post videos online, singing covers of songs, while gaining millions of views. His most famous cover was George Strait’s “Check Yes or No,” which went viral with 7 million views via Facebook.
Most people probably didn’t know that he wanted to be a professional basketball player before his singing career took off. He turned down a scholarship for the sport at the University of Tennessee.
His first single was “Used to Love You Sober,” but Brown took off with his next song, “What Ifs.” The song made him the first artist ever to lead all five Billboard Country music charts simultaneously.
At the 2018 AMA’s, Brown made history again as the most awarded country star to have not previously won an AMA.
The same year, Brown married fiancé, Katelyn Jae. He admits that the proposal was not very romantic, though. He asked her to marry him while watching the goriest part of Amityville Horror. In May of 2019, the couple announced they were expecting a baby girl, and in October, they introduced Kingsley Rose Brown into the world.
