Tim McGraw is one of the biggest and brightest stars in country music. Over the course of his career, he has released fifteen studio albums. Ten of those albums have gone to the top of Billboard’s Country Albums chart. Those albums produced dozens of singles.

Out of those singles, McGraw took 25 to the top of the country chart. As far as awards go, we could be here all day listing the numerous Grammy, ACM, and CMA awards he has taken home over the years. To top it all off, he’s married to country music superstar Faith Hill and they have three daughters together. In short, McGraw has plenty to celebrate.

Tim McGraw turns fifty-four years old today. So, we’re going to do some celebrating of our own. However, we’re not just going to look at his career. The man is more than his music. With that in mind, we’re going to look at some big moments from his personal life as well.

Highlights of Tim McGraw’s Career

Let’s kick this celebration of the country music superstar off right – with some music. Without his incredible career full of chart-topping hits, we wouldn’t know about the rest of the great moments. So, this feels like the perfect place to start.

Not a Moment Too Soon Makes a Huge Splash

Tim McGraw released his self-titled debut album in 1993. It didn’t do much of anything. It’s the only album he ever put out that failed to chart. None of the singles were hits. All in all, it was a rough start for McGraw. However, he didn’t let that stop him.

The next year, he released Not a Moment Too Soon and it blew the minds of music fans across the nation. It wasn’t just a hit with country fans. The album climbed both the Billboard Top 200 and Country Music charts all the way to the top. It stayed at the top of the country music chart for 26 weeks. Now, that’s how you follow up a dud of an album.

It ended up being Billboard’s number one country album of the year. The record also netted Tim McGraw the first of many ACM Awards. This primed him for the mammoth success that he still enjoys today.

Tim McGraw Wins a Grammy

Tim McGraw took home his first Grammy Award in 2001. The award came from the duet he recorded with his wife Faith Hill, “Let’s Make Love.” Faith Hill released the song on her 1999 album Breathe. McGraw added it to his first greatest hits compilation the next year.

The song reached number six on the Hot Country Songs chart. However, it was solid enough to still be a fan-favorite today and brought them the Grammy for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals.

Honorable Mention – McGraw Covers Shaver

This one wasn’t a career-changing moment. Nor was it a major accolade. Instead, it’s just really cool. It shows that Tim McGraw knows good music when he hears it.

Before the Jacksonville, Florida show on his 2015 Shotgun Rider tour, Tim McGraw and his band sat in the back of a moving truck and did an awesome cover of Billy Joe Shaver’s “I’m Just an Old Chunk of Coal.” It’s an amazing song and McGraw and his group absolutely killed the cover. Tim McGraw and Faith Hill – The Modern Johnny and June

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are one of the cutest couples in country music. They’re right up there with the legendary love story of Johnny and June. They have been going strong since the nineties. Their partnership doesn’t stop in their home either. They have toured together, recorded several duets, and generally work together beautifully.

They met at a Country Radio Seminar in 1994. At the time they were both in relationships. However, much like Johnny and June, the sparks were there instantly. It didn’t take long for those sparks to turn into a ring of fire.

How Tim Won Faith Over

The couple appeared on The Bobby Bones Show the day before their twentieth anniversary. With the occasion in mind, Bones asked them several questions about the history of their relationship. Tim McGraw said that he had to ask Faith Hill out several times. However, Faith vividly remembered the first time.

Tim McGraw showed up at her house unannounced. He brought her a bowl of chicken and dumplings and a plate of cornbread. He told her that he had made it all from scratch for her. Faith pointed out that he also brought a fork and spoon because he didn’t know if she which utensil she preferred to eat dumplings with.

While they were very talkative about that first interaction, they didn’t say much about their actual first date. All the couple said was “Eau Claire, Wisconsin,” and added that the details were “top secret.”

Tim McGraw Proposes to Faith Hill

It was the summer of 1996. Faith Hill and Tim McGraw were in Grand Junction, Colorado for the Country Jam Music Festival. Before going on stage, the couple was in a trailer house near the stage. It was there that Tim popped the question.

Before proposing, Tim McGraw had joked with Faith Hill about getting married. However, that night he was serious. He took her by the hand and told her, “I’m really serious. I want you to marry me.”

Even though he was serious, Faith Hill couldn’t help but laugh. “We’re at a country music festival, in a trailer house, and you’re asking me to marry you?” Tim just told her, “Yeah.”

However, she didn’t have an answer for him at the time. So, Tim McGraw took the stage, played his set, and came back to the trailer. When he got back he found a message written on his mirror with a Sharpie. “Yes,” the message read, “I’m going to be your wife.” The message was punctuated with lipstick kisses. McGraw still has that mirror to this day.

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill Have Three Daughters

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have been married for 24 years. Over the course of their long marriage, they have had three children together. All of which are daughters. Gracie, Maggie, and Audrey McGraw are all grown now and have branched out on their own. However, their social media presence shows that the family is still close, even if they are in different locations.

Tim McGraw has an amazing career, a happy marriage, and three wonderful children. That’s worth celebrating any day of the year. Today, is just a little more special.
