Former First Lady and United States Senator, Hillary Clinton is urging president-elect Joe Biden to award country music queen Dolly Parton with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Clinton has long been a vocal supporter of women’s rights and has quite the list of influential accomplishments herself. She became the first woman to win the nomination for president for a major political party in 2016. That was when she won the Democratic Party nomination. In addition, she was the first woman to win the popular vote in an American presidential election, although she lost to the current president, Donald Trump.
Clinton took to social media to make a call out to Biden and ask him to award Parton.
“@JoeBiden, please get this done,” Clinton wrote on Twitter.
Furthermore, Parton is continuing to further solidify her place as one of America’s leading philanthropists. Last month, word surfaced from news outlets that the pop culture icon helped fund the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.
Barack Obama Made a ‘Mistake’ by Not Awarding Dolly Parton With Presidential Medal
Former President Barack Obama admitted he made a mistake by not awarding the medal to Parton during his tenure as president.
He made an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday. While promoting his book, “A Promised Land,” he says he made a “major mistake” while in office.
Eventually, during the interview, Colbert asked Obama the question everyone was wondering. He wanted to know why Parton never got a medal for all of her humanitarian work.
“How does Dolly Parton not have a Presidential Medal of Freedom?” he asked.
Obama certainly took responsibility in admitting that one was a “screw-up on his part.”
“That’s a mistake — I’m shocked,” Obama replied. “That was a screw-up. I’m surprised. I think I assumed that she had already got one, and that was incorrect.”
However, the former president added that he will do his best to fix that. Additionally, he even offered to call his former vice president and the current president-elect, Biden.
“She deserves one. I’ll call Biden,” he said.
