Is ‘Trio’ Album With Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Rondstadt Getting Recreated by 3 Current Stars?

Country music history may be repeating itself after it’s been rumored that some of the genre’s biggest stars would be recreating the classic collaborative record, Trio. In a recent interview with RADIO.COM’s “Katie & Company,” country singer Carly Pearce talked about her upcoming record “29,” which honors her late music producer, Busbee.  During the interview, the “Messy” singer dropped a bombshell when she hinted that she might be teaming up with her colleagues, Maren Morris and Kelsea Ballerini, on an upcoming project.

Pearce discussed that the group of country music powerhouses has talked about recreating the beloved collaborative studio album recorded by Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris in 1987. “Maren and Kelsea and I talked about recreating the Trio record,” Pearce said during the interview. “Or doing a song from it. I want to do that. We talked about it. It’s been out there in the world. I think we should do it.”

Pearce also admitted that she hopes to work with the iconic Dolly Parton in the future, who she referred to as her idol. Trio was the first grammy-winning collaborative project from Parton, Harris, and Ronstadt. In March of 1987, after years of trying to work together, the women released the album in March 1987 with the backing of Warner Bros. Records.

After its release, the album sold over four million copies and also produced hit singles such as “Telling Me Lies,” “To Know Him Is To Love Him,” “Those Memories Of You,” and “Wildflowers.”

The following year, the group took home the Grammy Award for “Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal,” and an ACM for “Album Of The Year,” and a CMA award for “Vocal Event Of The Year.”

While it would be challenging to recreate, Pearce, Morris, and Ballerini seem like the perfect combination to put their spin on the legendary record. The group of women shares a special bond that has moved beyond friendship and evolved into a sisterhood.

“Those girls have walked every situation that I’ve walked and there’s just a sisterhood there,” Pearce said about her relationship with the vocalists. “Most people don’t understand because you haven’t lived what we live and you can’t really ask certain people questions. But for them, we can all bond over what we deal with as female artists in the industry. And it’s just nice to feel like you’re not alone sometimes.”
