Country music star Jake Owen just dropped his newest single, “Best Thing Since Backroads,” and I can’t help but be reminded of a mix of instrumental twang from groups like The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and a more classic country sound Owen incorporated in his earlier songs and albums.

“Best Thing Since Backroads” narrates the subject’s long time spent traveling his town’s back roads, however, none of that compares to the raw feelings of true love. Additionally, it highlights how backroads are more fun when you got someone you love by your side. Take a listen below; it’s already on my Spotify playlist!

According to a news release, the song was written by Ben Johnson, Jordan Minton, Hunter Phelps, and Geoff Warburton. While some of Owen’s latest hits have featured a slower, more traditional country love ballad, “Best Thing Since Back Roads” emphasizes the simplicity and fun of love in country music.

About the song, Jake Owen said, “It’s always exciting releasing new music. It feels great being back out on the road and bringing happiness to people.” And with the upbeat tempo and tune of his latest single, we know Outsiders will definitely find lots of joy and contentment in Owen’s latest country bop.

“I always strive to record songs that make you feel good. This one is going to be a lot of fun to play,” Owen said.

Jake Owen is Reportedly Facing Law Suits Over Hit ‘Made For You’

While Owen should look forward to another potential no. 1 in “Best Thing Since Backroads,” he also was reportedly facing lawsuits late last week over his most recent no. 1 “Made For You.” According to reports, Owen supposedly stole the song after he had previously been given the song by a promoter.

TMZ stated that Alexander Cardinale and Morgan Reid filed against the famous country star, claiming Owen’s “Made For You” was ripped off of their 2014 track. The pair’s legal documents claim “notes, structure, harmony, and rhythm are clear indicators” that Jake Owen stole the song. And while Owen is the major target of the lawsuit, it overall encapsulates the songwriters, Owen’s partner Big Loud Records, and all publishing platforms that brought the song to life as defendants according to Wide Open Country.

Regardless, Owen has not responded with any comments regarding the lawsuit claims.

Nevertheless, “Made For You” marked Owen’s 9th no. 1 on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart. According to Billboard.com, the song features on Jake Owen’s 2019 album Greetings From…Jake Owen. The album itself debuted and peaked at no. 8 in April of that year.

As far as “Made For You” goes, Owen said, “Rounding out this album with a third No. 1 is something I am so proud of,” and despite recent claims, the song continues to spin on country radio airways.
