Jake Owen in 2021 Film

On January 22 the movie “Our Friend” will be in theaters and On Demand for viewing. The country artist stated in a tweet that “This is a beautiful, true life story. I’m incredibly grateful to have a role … you’re going to cry, you’re going to laugh.”

Owen will be acting alongside major names like Dakota Johnson, Casey Affleck and Jason Segel. The trailer is also now available for the upcoming film. Jake Owen will be playing a character named Aaron in the movie.

It is difficult to say exactly what his role will be in the movie. He doesn’t appear to be in the trailer recently released.

Many fans, however, are hoping the powerful performance from Dakota Johnson already clear in the trailer will finally lead her to an Oscar.

The indie movie “Our Friend,” previously called “The Friend” is a 2021 comedy-drama that is based on an essay from Esquire.

The film is about a couple who finds out that the wife has a terminal form of cancer. The couple has a close, lifelong best friend who puts his entire life on hold and moves in with his best friend while his wife goes through treatment.

The couple also has two daughters that the best friend spends time with. He helps them to cope with and understand the immensity of the situation.

The trailer shows the combination of both humor, thanks in great deal to Jason Segel’s character, as well as the dark moments that come from waiting for someone’s life to fade away.

The Power of ‘Our Friend’

The film puts into perspective the sheer power of friendship. It also discusses the weight and moments of death no one really ever talks about. Instead of staying a few weeks to help his best friend, Segel’s character never leaves.

Dakota Johnson’s character is the wife diagnosed with cancer. She comes up with a list of things she wants to do before dying. One is leading a Mardi Gras parade and another is going onstage with Katy Perry.

A beginning passage of the original 2015 Esquire article details where it all started, “Nicole was thirty-four, and the doctor had been direct: ‘It’s everywhere,’ he said. ‘Like somebody dipped a paintbrush in cancer and flicked it around her abdomen.’ I staggered down a hallway and then collapsed. I remember the tile, close to my face, and then watching it retreat as my best friend picked me up from the floor. His name is Dane Faucheux, and I remember noting, even in the midst of a mental fugue: Dane’s a lot stronger than I realized.”

The film is directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite and screenplay written by Brad Ingelsby.

The year 2020 has been filled with a lot of stress, anxiety, and disaster. This heartwarming take on death and coping could be a breath of fresh air.
