Any time that Jamey Johnson is going to take the time to do something, you should pay very close attention. His cover of George Strait’s Give it Away for Farm Aid is the latest example.

One of the best country music break up/love songs of the 2000s has to be Strait’s Give it Away. Johnson does an amazing job soloing this with just his voice and guitar picking skills. Despite saying, “Sorry my guitar player sucks,” his skills are truly something to watch. It helps that Johnson helped write the song in the first place, he knows a thing or two about how it should sound.

Watch him pluck the strings and put out a deep, baritone rendition of the song.

It was back in 2006 when George Strait originally debuted the song. He sang on the tune that Jamey Johnson, Bill Anderson, and Buddy Cannon composed. The song was an instant success. It took home the Single of the Year and Song of the Year awards at the ACM awards in 2007. Johnson has made it a rotational song for himself at live shows.

As for Farm Aid, 2021 isn’t the first year they have heard Johnson sing this particular song. He also played the song back at Farm Aid 2018 and 2012. While he hasn’t put out another album since 2012, the country artist still entertains with his low voice and somber sound. He brings something to the lyrics that even Strait is unable to put into them.

Through the years, Jamey Johnson continues his transformation into a country music guru. His beard and hair continue to grow and he now looks like a wise sage. The guitar and strap with his name on it have seen better days, that’s for sure.

Jamey Johnson and…Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Collab?

Since he has done just about everything there is to do in this world, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson seems to be looking for more stuff to do. He was recently in a rap song. He made his hip-hop debut by joining on the end of a Tech N9ne song. That received quite a reaction from the rest of the world. Now the superstar wants to cut an outlaw record with Jamey Johnson.

There is a feeling in the air that Johnson is set to release new music. He hasn’t put out a brand new album since 2012. That is a long time for fans that are looking for new material. If he were to drop a new record with The Rock that would be wild! Imagine walking across a cowboy the size of a Samoan mountain, eh?

Fans are going to take anything they can get in regards to new music from Jamey Johnson. If it happens to come alongside the former Heavyweight Champion, then so be it. New music is new music after nine years of nothing.
