Country star Jason Aldean received his first gold record for “Hicktown” 15 years ago today. The song would later become certified platinum.
“Hicktown” was the first song of Aldean’s to land on the Top 10 in the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. He released it in March of 2005. Then, by late 2005, it climbed to the No. 10 spot on the chart.
Big & Rich’s Big Kenny and John Rich and Vicky McGehee wrote the song. It tells of how people party out in the boondocks, in contrast to the swank martini bars of city life.
Meanwhile, “Hicktown” went on to become Aldean’s top song to play at shows. He often closes out his sets with it.

Jason Aldean Is Playing Two Socially Distanced Shows
In May, Aldean is playing two socially distanced shows at the Concerts on the Farm series on the Bonnaroo festival site in Manchester, Tennessee, according to Billboard.
The shows are happening on May 14 and 15. Attendees will be placed in four-person pods spaced six feet apart. Tickets are available only in packets of four. Prices run from $99 to $450.
Concertgoers are allowed to set up chairs and blankets within their pods. While masks are required on concert grounds, people can take them off once they’re inside their pods.
“You could’ve asked me to play a gas station at this point and I would say yes,” Aldean said in a statement on his website. “So being able to set up the full show with all the band guys plugged in is going to make for a really good time. We’re going to turn it up – there’s nobody out there to bother –and make up for some lost time, for sure.”
Aldean Army members can purchase tickets before the general public, starting on April 7 at 10 a.m. CST. Everyone else can buy tickets starting on April 9 at 10 a.m. CST. A link to get tickets is available on Aldean’s website.
Some future Concerts on the Farm performers besides Aldean are The Avett Brothers, Jon Pardi and Billy Strings. The Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival takes place this year on Sept. 2-5.
