Brad Paisley and Jimmie Allen joined forces to create the new twang-pop infusion, “Freedom Was a Highway.”

Jimmie Allen is known for his country sound with a contemporary R&B influence. Paisley is a modern-sounding country artist with killer guitar skills.

Teaming Up for ‘Freedom Was a Highway’

Together, they created a song that induces a powerful sense of nostalgia. It’s something that a lot of people could probably use right now. Jimmie Allen, Ash Bowers and Matt Rogers wrote the song. It tells the story of what things were like before.

“When the town was the whole world / And love was the girl next door / Soundtrack was a song in the dark / miss those days when our dreams were there for chasin.'”

Besides the girl next door, the song also explores the feeling of cruising down roads at 17. Or even those summer days spent “young and livin.'”

The collaborative song came out yesterday on New Music Friday.

According to Popculture, Jimmie Allen said in a statement, “When I was writing this song with my co-writers, I imagined myself driving down my favorite roads in Delaware. This song takes me back to simpler moments such as an innocent, childhood crush on the next-door neighbor or feeling freedom in the wind as you drive with the windows down. I’ve loved this song from the creation. I’m a huge admirer of Brad Paisley. I love what he brings to music and I had to have him bring that same magic to this song. I’m humbled to have him join me on this song – he brought the Freedom to the Highway.”

Jimmie Allen Respect and Future Work

The song first appeared on Allen’s EP from July, “Bettie James.” The song will hit radio stations on Feb.1. While Paisley helped Allen on this track, “Bettie James” has a number of other guest performers as well. Charley Pride, Darius Rucker, Mickey Guyton, Nelly, Noah Cyrus, the Oak Ridge Boys, Tim McGraw, Rita Wilson, and Tauren Wells are all on the EP.

It is in typical Jimmie Allen fashion as he blurs the lines of genre, inviting guests from pop to R&B to country.

While Allen expressed his respect for Paisley, that respect is certainly not one-sided. Paisley even got to rock out with an epic guitar solo about halfway through the track. He’s using his signature and recognizable guitar-playing style.

“I’m a fan of Jimmie, not only as a musician but also as a person, and I was honored when he asked me to join him on the song. It’s a magical combination – it doesn’t sound like a typical record for me at all and when I come in, I try my best not to ruin Jimmie’s song. I use my guitar to make a record sort of sound like I’m on it even before you hear me sing, and I love this guitar solo. I’m really proud to be a part of ‘Freedom Was A Highway’ and I’m excited for people to hear it,” Paisley said in a statement.

It seems like 2021 will be a busy year for Jimmie Allen. He has recently been teasing “No Limits,” which will be a rap-country hybrid with Blanco Brown.
