Jimmie Allen Fires Back at People That Say He Doesn’t ‘Dress Country’

Country music singer and songwriter Jimmie Allen is quickly shooting up the ranks of the country music industry.

Allen has quite a rags to riches story when it comes to his country music stardom. The now 34-year-old singer moved to Nashville in 2007 where he experienced poverty and spent time living in his car. He auditioned for “American Idol” and “America’s Got Talent” but did not advance past preliminary rounds in either. He caught his first big break in 2017 when he signed with Broken Bow Records and released a self-titled EP.

Allen is known for combining different musical genres, such as contemporary R&B, to produce a unique sound. He has collaborated with some of the world’s top musical talents including Noah Cyrus among others.

Jimmie Allen Defends Taste in Clothing

The rising star was recently the subject of criticism from country music fans who say Allen doesn’t “dress the part” of a country musician. He took to social media on Saturday to address his clothing tastes, saying “clothes do not make a person country.”

“Funniest thing people say to me is ‘you don’t dress country,’” he says in the Twitter post. “What is dressing country? I was born and raised in a small country town. I wear what I like. Clothe don’t make a person country. Just like standing on the side of the road won’t make you a stop sign.”

Allen’s wide-ranging and growing fanbase came to the singer’s side with more than 450 likes and numerous responses and retweets.

Allen was the only country act on the recent Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rocking Eve event. He put on quite a performance that drew the attention of not only his fans, but many others who were previously unaware of his talents. He began his set with his hit song “Make me Want to” and also recognized late country music star Charley Pride.
