Jimmie Allen Looks Back on Getting Cut from ‘American Idol’: ‘Feels Like Yesterday’

Not all dreams come true. Jimmie Allen knows rejection all too well. The country singer has fought and clawed to get where he is today in the industry.

Like many would-be singers in the 2000s, Allen had dreams of winning “American Idol” and getting that coveted golden ticket to Hollywood. After-all, it worked for artists like Carrie Underwood, who launched her superstar country career on the back of an Idol win.

Ultimately, Allen went home during the Las Vegas round in the show’s 10th season. The singer saw his Idol dreams dissipate when he failed to make the live rounds. But he looks back fondly on his time on the show.

On Twitter, he wrote, “Hard to believe this was almost 10 years ago, feels like yesterday. Even though things didn’t end the way I planned, I’m still thankful for the opportunity. I made some life long friends on @AmericanIdol and created some great memories.”

Jimmie Allen Continues to Follow His Dream

They say how people handle rejection determines their character. “American Idol” was just another stop on Allen’s journey to pursuing his musical career.

Allen moved to Nashville in 2007, and he hustled for over a decade before he finally got his big break. For a few years, Allen lived out of his car. But he refused to give up. Finally, in 2017, Broken Bow Records recognized Allen’s talents and signed him to a record deal.

He released his first album “Mercury Lane” in 2018 and also released an extended play “Bettie James” earlier this year. Allen has been working on new songs and partnering with artists like Noah Cyrus for “This Is Us.” He’s come a long way from where he first started over a decade ago.

Allen went from living in his car to performing at the CMA Awards, proving that dreams can come true if you work hard and don’t give up.
