Johnny Cash’s Son Speaks Out on Opportunity to Make Music with Loretta Lynn

by Katie Maloney

John Carter Cash, Johnny Cash’s son, posts a photo on Instagram honoring the time he performed with Loretta Lynn.

In 2016 Lynn released her Christmas record, White Christmas Blue, which quickly became a holiday staple for fans. Later that year, Lynn shared a special video of her performing “Country Christmas.” Additionally, fans were excited to see Johnny Cash’s son, John Carter Cash alongside Lynn. Cash played the guitar while Lynn sang, “A good old country Christmas, that’s what it’s gonna be. With all the family gathered ’round our pretty Christmas tree.”

Cash posted a photo of himself playing the guitar next to Lynn. With the photo, he writes, “I will never forget being able to play guitar and back up the amazing @lorettalynnofficial!!” He then gave a shout-out to Lynn’s Christmas album.

Johnny Cash’s Son Carries On The Music Tradition

With music legends, Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, as parents, it’s no surprise that Cash grew up with music in his life. Although he’s found success as a singer-songwriter and author, Cash spends most of his time as a record producer. Cash has produced hundreds of recordings for dozens of artists including both his parents. Cash Cabin Studio, the same space his father recorded hundreds of songs, is where Cash spends a lot of his time. In 2016, Cash produced Loretta Lynn’s album, Full Circle. We guess you could say that his holiday performance with Lynn really brought the duet’s relationship full circle.

Cash Is More Than Just His Father’s Son

Cash says that “being part of the legacy of Johnny Cash is an important aspect to my life, but there are so many other things that make up my rounded sanity.” The Grammy award-winning producer has written several children’s books and a novel. Most recently, he’s published a cookbook of family recipes, The Cash and Carter Family Cookbook.
