Outsiders, it’s with great joy we announce that the wait is finally over. Kacey Musgraves did, in fact, drop her full-length “Star Crossed” album. This is where that Looney Tunes pig chimes in with “that’s not all, folks.” No, the album is not the only trick up Kacey’s sleeve. Its release comes with the announcement of a Paramount Plus feature film of the same name that pairs the music of Musgraves with stunning moving pictures. Then, this announcement is also compounded by a list of new tour dates for the coming year. There’s so much to unpack here, so let’s dive right in.

Kacey Musgraves Unveils Fifth Studio Album

After weeks of teasing and behind-the-scenes peeks, Kacey Musgraves dropped her fifth studio album, “Star Crossed.” Available across all streaming platforms, the album explores a lot of really emotional themes. The inspiration is heavily focused on the turmoil that led to Kacey’s divorce from her ex-husband, Ruston Kelly. However, the album is not all negative. It actually takes a really genuine and earnest dive into the long process of healing. To use Kacey’s own lyrics, “healing doesn’t happen in a straight line.” That comes from the “justified” track on the album.

At a quick glance, here are some of the stats about the album. In full, there are a total of 15 songs, and their names are all exclusively typed out in lower-case. The running time comes in at just under an hour. Actually, it’s 47:32 to be exact. Fans are familiar with a lot of the tracks already, from previous releases. For example, there’s the titular “star-crossed.” New songs include “… keep lookin’ up” as well as “what doesn’t kill me” and “there is a light.”

The Feature Film

Kacey Musgrave’s “star-crossed: the film” also made its debut along with the album, finding a home on Paramount Plus. Streaming now, the film runs 48 minutes long. They say the film “takes the music from the studio to the screen with gorgeous visuals and a sense of heightened reality envisioned by Musgraves and Zeinali and shot by Academy Award-nominated cinematographer Matthew Libatique.”

Actually, something cool that happened is the fact that the feature film actually got a theatrical debut in some parts of the world. Kacey Musgraves took to Twitter to thank fans for showing up. She sounds really grateful and blown away by the support.

The Tour

Okay, we covered the album’s release as well as its film counterpart. Now, let’s talk tour. The “star-crossed: unveiled” tour is set to kick off in early January of 2022. That’s not too long away, guys. If we waited for the album, we can wait for this, too. Musgraves calls it a limited 15-city run. She’s bringing King Princess and MUNA along for the ride. You can access the full tour schedule here.
